Arabesque 1 - feedback please :)
on: July 16, 2016, 10:47:25 PM
Hello everybody!  :)

My teacher assigned me Debbusy's Arabesque 1 as for this summer. I've just recorded my progress, and I'd really like you guys to tell whether or not this is good, and what to improve  ;D
I've really enjoyed Ciccolini's interpretation of the pieces.

Thank you :)

Hi,
Nice job! This is one of my favorite Debussy pieces that I really enjoy playing. The download seems to have a problem where the first section is played repeatedly, so I did not get to listen to it as a complete performance. I thought that you played it very nicely, but could possibly suggest a bit more of a variation in dynamics. Although I am far from an expert, it seemed quite enjoyable to me.
Thank you and keep up the good work!

Hi Chopin4lyfe,

Congratulations on your awesome playing! I liked it very much, mostly accurate, and most of the musical elements coming together well. I feel that you have a very nice rubato and a sense of time.

"Don't be afraid to play differently." - Emile Naoumoff

If you buy a red car, and all the cars around you are red, then it is not special.

When my friend was playing the prelude from Debussy's pour le piano, he said this in a master class. Arabesque is a beautiful piece, but therefore, like all other beautiful pieces, it is overplayed. I think what you need to focus doing right now is to find your own special style of playing. I don't think there is a point in playing it just like everyone else. Element your own thoughts and characteristics in your playing. It is really hard to do this, but I really think you can. Just experiment with what you like, not what your common sense tells you; but still follow the score markings. That's why this is hard.

I still think that you can do this. I liked your piece a lot, because the piece is awesome. I want to like it because you are awesome.
