How to pronouce the name of this composer in German?
on: November 21, 2016, 10:29:21 AM
Eugen d'Albert

Shall I pronounce as U-Gene D-Albert as in English?  Or Oil-Gun Del-Bert?

BTW, who is he?  d'Albert was a student of Liszt.  The personal life side of d'Albert may be more interesting.  He married 6 times!  Busoni dedicated his transcription on J.S. Bach's Chaconne from Violin Partita No. 2 to d'Albert.  On the other hand, d'Albert dedicated his transcription on J.S. Bach's Passacaglia (written for organ) to Busoni.

In the german wikipedia is written, that he preferred the german version of his name. So it should be pronounced "oigen" (the g sounds like the g in gun or god). But d'Albert is typical french to me, it should sound like "dullbear".
