Fugue on an original Russian folk theme
on: July 02, 2019, 02:24:58 PM
Inspired by Ronde's fine set of variations on this theme and JS Bach (and Brahms), here is my version of a fugue on an original Russian folk theme. 2 recordings: 1) new 150 BPM and 2) me trying to play this thing ;D. Thanks again to Klavieronin for his help.   Thanks for listening!

Always nice to see members creating their own music. Very enjoyable, especially the sequential bits, 28-29 and similar.

Thanks Ted.  I’ve listened to several of your improvs and I enjoyed them.  Sorry for not commenting before.  I know the style here is far removed from your interest.  This is just my attempt to try to approximate the style of Bach in many of the places using a Russian folk theme, which is a little challenging.  Nothing original here.  Just a counterpoint exercise with a nod to Brahms in the coda.  Thanks for listening!

Well done.  The length of the subject gives a particular challenge.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thanks. Good observation on the fugue subject.

I wrote this in a short period of time after a very long break from composing.  Pretty much wanted to wrap it up after finishing the exposition and first episode so I figured out a way to just repeat what I did a couple times then tack on small coda.  Result is a little repetitive.  But it was fun to write one last piece.  Thanks for listening!

A great example of a fugue with a long subject is the Bach little fugue in g minor for organ.  I can only dream of writing a great work like this.
