I'm currently a 15-year-old high school junior, and I'm hoping to audition in one year for the single spot to perform a concerto (movement) with my school orchestra. It will be a single piece in a primarily orchestra concert, so it shouldn't be more than about 10 minutes. Since I will be playing with a high school orchestra (albeit a fairly good one), anything extremely difficult for the orchestra might not be a great choice either.
The other contenders for the spot are most likely playing Rach 2 Mvt. 1 and Prokofiev 1 Mvt. 1. I was working on Saint-Saens no. 2 in G Minor Mvt. 3 until recently, but my teacher advised me to change to a bigger one when I told her what the others are playing. The first three choices are her suggestions, and the Prokofiev one is something I've always wanted to play but for which I'm not sure if I'm ready.
Here's my current solo repertoire:
-Bach WTC 1 P&F in A Flat Major
-Beethoven Pathetique Sonata
-Ravel Jeux d'eau
-Liszt Trois Etudes de Concert no. 1 "Il Lamento"
-Prokofiev Toccata op. 11
Thank you in advance to anyone who responds!
