Rachmaninoff, Prelude Op23 No 6
on: October 02, 2021, 02:30:51 PM
Dear community,
I'd like to share a recording of a beautiul prelude by S. Rachmaninoff. I am playing piano again after a really long break of over two decades and any feedback for improvement will be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes to all,
KT

Great! Many fine qualities, especially considering you saying you've had a two decade break.
The main thing I would focus on to improve this further is the legato of the melody. Make sure you match the tone quality of each melody note to the previous one in such a manner that the melody line sounds really smooth and connected. Right now you sometimes play certain notes too softly and then the next one too strongly or vice versa, so you lose the connection. Practice maybe only the melody and listen intently to what you are doing - and make sure to relax! If we tense up when we try to improve something we actually make it more difficult.

Thank you anacrusis,
Your advice was spot on, I was quite tense and aware of not playing wrong notes during the recording and omitted completely many other aspects. I am currently working on the phrasing and the voices.
Much appreciated,
KM
