Better Version of New World Symphony?
on: March 03, 2022, 12:45:30 AM
Hey all!

I just wanted to post this beautiful arrangement of Dvorak's New World Symphony. The arranger is Jennifer Thomas and it has a few excerpts from Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto. Let me know what you guys think!

*Perfect_Pitch, I think you'll like this one better.

Unfortunately not, I don't like it when people plagiarise and chop and use other peoples music for their own 'composition', and the excerpts of the Rachmaninoff sound cheesy with the computer generated strings. Plus, I didn't really hear that much of the Dvorak in it anyway... so it's not really a better version in any case considering so little is relevant to the original piece.

I'm a hard man to please. Why is it you think there needs to be a 'better' version of the New World Symphony??? The music itself it already perfection - the only thing that can be better is each conductors interpretation of it (or pianist in the case of piano concerti).

Is there a 'better' version of 'Beethoven's 5th'? The only one that came close was a recording that had the fortepiano included which I still haven't been able to find online. Gave a slightly new dimension to the piece... but other than that - you can't really make a 'better version' of these great and magnificent works.

And most arrangements don't usually get remotely close to the gravitas and awe that the original works created.

Here is a composer that's a bit more classical. What do you think?

Definitely more up my alley - you're getting warmer. There are small aspects of Bach-style writing, but then it shifts to something more 20th century in the freedom of its writing style, but I like his use of the lower octaves of the piano that definitely weren't available in the 18th century. I have respect for people who imitate a style of someone else, but don't overtly rip off someone elses music in the process.

Also, the shift from c minor to c sharp minor was quite nice. Bach would NEVER have done that, but it seemed seamless; and then through different keys before settling back on the c minor.

Wish he would have ended it a little nicer though - it seems like...

I'm playing, i'm playing, I'm playing... C

[the end]

You kind of go 'what the ***, you're just 'done', like that???' It's like someone doing a bad speech with no cohesion and going - I'm rambling facts, more facts, even more facts. The end.

Okay. So he has a whole variety of songs that style, so maybe I'll find one you like.
