on: August 09, 2024, 02:43:09 PM
Hello,
I recently started working on Clair de Lune and would really appreciate some improvement tips on the middle section. If you have any recommendations I'd be very grateful to hear them :)

Here's a little snippet.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Ohh, thank you! :) I am just a bit of a perfectionist (and have only recently started playing piano again with the intention of becoming an advanced player), so always welcome some tips haha

It's not flowing. keep a much more constant tempo. Keep the semiquavers in time. Don;t try to make it 'romantic'.

It's all a matter of balance and tone.

Some of the chords are not played together.

Listen.

Thank you! Yes, I agree that it sounds a bit choppy and I’ve been working on that since ☺️

I like your phrazing and tone, It's great when it's not a robot playing the notes, but there's an author's interpretation, their vision, even if it's not very prominent here! Keep on going, all the best!

Bravo and great to see that you are enjoying this piece.

The World would be a much poorer place were it not for the wonderful music of Debussy.

While the sound is overall very nice and in harmony with the composers intentions the pulse is a little bit scattered which gives the piece a nervous quality. I think the pulse is slightly uneven due to the subdivision of the beat(the faster notes) being either rushed or dragged. The piece is in 9/8 and should be felt as such. Many recordings of this work is often lacking in the feeling of pulse, believing that's just the rubato talking. In good rubato you can still sense the performers sense of pulse, which in return makes you understand what he is doing musically
