Ear Training Basics by Julie Johnson
on: May 21, 2025, 10:44:48 PM

I wondering if there are any teachers here who use the Ear Training Basics series with their students, and what their thoughts are?

I'm looking for an ear training resource(s) that is not part of some piano lesson series (like Bastien, Alfred, Faber, etc.), because I don't like most of the series around today (for a variety of reasons I don't need to get into). Johnson's series seems pretty straight to the point - teaching ear training - no strange, distracting drawings of monsters all over the page like many modern lesson books. With that being said, I've only seen the preview pages, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience using one or more of the books. Thanks!

I haven’t used Johnson’s Ear Training Basics myself, but I appreciate your point about wanting straightforward materials without distracting extras.
