"The Heart Asks Pleasure First"
on: March 03, 2005, 04:39:02 PM
This piece is from the movie "The Piano". I just listening to it and its wonderful ˇˇˇ
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

I think the whole film score from the movie is quite lovely - it gets repetitive, but it really formed an evocative  backdrop for the movie.  Probably one of the reasons it's one of my all time favorite movies.

oh that piece is not for the begginer.  it is in one of the books i have at the moment and it is the hardest song in the book.  my teacher can't even play it.  search for my last messages and one of the recent ones would be talking about the piano for lesuire corses.  that song is in the 5th grade piano for lesuire.

I hope you mean that your teacher can't "sightread" it!  It's true that it's not for the beginner, but it's not that hard either.
It works better if you plug it in...

Is this piece hard to learn because it looks and sounds quite tricky: the amount you are doing with your left hand, really testing it.

oh i love all the music for that film in fact i was listening to it yesterday. yeah i attempted to teach it to myself back when i was 12/13 but only got to around the 3rd page cos i couldn't stand teaching myself. but my friend could play the whole thing. from what i remember the most issues i had was with bringing out the melody, but that was so long ago i think i've moved on now!
yeah i kind of like the repetitiveness, it sounds kind of simple but i find it really moving. good music for one of those 'lie in bed and cry' times hahaha

I remember having difficulty trying to learn it years back, I just couldnt get into it.
Then I came back to it, not playing it for a week or two, and it was beyond easy, it was like I had already learnt it and was just polishing. Must have been the old Post practice improvement, anyway I say go for it, It sounds alot harder then it is.
The whole piece is fairly systematic , so If you can get one bar perfect, the rest you'll learn in your stride.
