I guess it depends on what we are actually getting out of working together. Ultimately, I would hope to have a teacher that helps me grow as a person as well as a musician. I don't think there is just one way to go about that... and I am not certain which one is more important when it comes to learning about music ?
Somebody with a deep kindness and compassion, yet a solid strength as well. Encouragement is a definite plus, but only at the right times and in the right ways. Honesty is of a huge value to me as well. If I screwed up, I just want somebody to tell me out right. Somebody who pushes me is good. Somebody who figures out what makes me tick as a musician. (at least this is how I am feeling right now, nothing sounds as good as it seems it could, before I actually say it).
I suppose it also depends on what exactly you mean by "personal". I think that if I meet up with somebody who happens to love music in similar ways as I, one would hardly have to try even, for the connection to be somewhat personal.
So which one does this all fall under ? he he he... ha ... heh
Hmmm.... I don't think I am answering your question very well :-
