Chopin Competition

I'll give you my vote right here,

YES, we should 100% get rid of an international Chopin Competition, a smaller nationalized one would be fine, by right now it is out of control.

- It limits these classical pianists' personal interpretations and creativity through the judges only scoring people high based off of what they really want to hear.
- It's gatekept by the higher ups in the community along with the judge panel only voting for either their own students or some sort of backroom discussion (kind of like corrupt politicians)
- Polish Pianist don't get as much recognition as they should because of this gatekeeping due to their teacher not being on the panel.

One of the only highlights is some students will gain a loyal following/platform/recognition for their skills no matter how they place which I find to be the only real upside.

Vladimir Horowitz never attended a competition, and he became arguably the greatest pianist of the 20th century.

We had this thread late last year. Lots of good points made + one user who, in hindsight, was hopefully trying to be a troll.

I’ve noticed that too with some recordings - sometimes the tempo sounds “easy” until you actually sit down and try to keep the phrasing clean and controlled. A lot of the difficulty is in the musicality and consistency, not just the notes themselves.

I don't think that's the consensus, lol. Even just looking at this poll, three votes for "get rid of it" and none for "don't."
