2 options:

1. press the "quote" button above the post you want to quote.

2. press "reply". when you're writing your post, down is a list with all the posts in the thread. each one has a link "insert quote" above it. press this. this is even better, cause this way you can include multiple quotes from different posts in your own post.

In addition, if you want to quote explicietly, you can surround a piece of text with [*quote][*/quote] tags. Do not type the '*'. I used them only to avoid the text to show up as a, well, quote.

Try: [*quote]This is a quote [*/quote]

Without the '*' and check it out in "Preview"

Ok, I'll spell it out for you (because someone had to spell it out to me! LOL) ;)

First, make sure that you are logged in (and not just an observer).  Over on the top right side of the post that you want to quote, there is a 'quote' button.  Hit that. This will take you to a page that is set up similar to the one that you see when you hit 'reply'.  But the difference here is that you will see the entire post of that person, followed by a [ / quote ] (without the spaces, but I had to do that so I wouldn't be quoted just now!)  Let's first work on quoting a person's entire post, rather than a line or two.   That's harder.  Move your cursor past the ] of the [ / quote ].  Hit the 'enter' button a time or two, and now you are ready to type your reply!  Yay!  Try this out now, using my post, ok?

I have to chuckle to myself a little at this post.  I first remember trying to figure out the quote thing, and once I got it i realized how easy it is.  Really easy compared to most piano technique that gets asked about in this forum.

Given how hard it is to explain concisely how to use the quote function, imagine how hard it is to explain about any movement on the piano!  ;D

I know!!  LOL And what I JUST COULD NOT SEEM TO DO at first was quoting a sentence or so, and then replying to that, followed by another quote of a sentence or two, and replying to that!!  LOL  Lagin, someday you, too, will be able to do this!!

Yay!!
Ok, now try just quoting off of one or two sentences in this post.  The first thing I said was "Yay!!".  Try quoting that, and then respond to it.  So now you want to hit the reply button again (making sure that you are logged in.  If you aren't logged in, then you don't even see the reply button.)  Ok, this will take you to the same type of page again.  You will see my entire post in the white box. Up at the beginning of my post you will see [ quote Janice (or whatever) and a bunch of numbers (I'm doing this by memory, so I might be a little off!), and then the ] .  Down at the bottom, is  [ / quote ].  Leave the [ / quote ] there, and cut out everything from the last word in this post, up to the "Yay!!"  So now all that is left is: the  [ quote Janice 15325854 (or whatever it says) ]"Yay!!" [ / quote ].  Make sure cursor is past the ], hit 'enter' a time or two, and say "Yay!!" back to me.  Have fun!  This took me forever to figure out--lol.

Sweet!  Thanks Janice!  Hey, can you quote from other threads, too?
If so, will you teach me :)

I'm pretty sure you can quote from other threads, but I don't know how.  LOL  Sorry!!  Hopefully, someone else will teach us!

Ok, next project:to quote on 2 or more different things (from the same post), meaning to go: quote, your  comment, another quote, then your comment, etc etc.  So that it goes blue text (which is the quote of the other person) , white text (white being your comment),then0 blue text, then white text, etc.  Trying to figure this out caused me a great deal of turmoil!!  Now, I think it's rather fun!

I will say "I think Beethoven's Sonatas are awesome!"  You will say whatever you want.  Then I will say "I'm listening to a Beethoven symphony right now".  Then you say whatever, ok?  But first try quoting my first sentence ("I'm pretty sure.....")  Then make your comment. Then you will quote where I said "I think Beethoven's Sonatas are awesome!"  To do this, take a look at the top of the white box where you type.  There is a row of smileys, but above that are two rows of icons.  Click on the next to the last one of the 2nd row.  By doing this, you have inserted those [ quote ][  / quote ] thingys in the box.  Now, scroll down, and the entire text from the thread is there, so you won't constantly need to go back and forth, from thread to reply page.  Pick a sentence, and copy it.  Then, move your cursor up to the white box, and paste that sentence between the ] and the [ of "[ quote ][ / quote ]". What I always do, is I put my cursor between the ] and the [, and then I hit the space bar a few times, then I paste.  That gives me more of a space to make sure that I have pointed my mouse arrow right between the ] and the [.  Ok, go to work now!! LOL ;)

Hey, that took some doing, but I think I'm getting it!  Yes!  Is there a book on how to do all this?  Who told the first person how?  So now, Janice, I guess the only thing left to learn is how to quote from different people throughout a thread.  Will you teach me that too?

By the way, I've been reading your posts and I think we have something in common, "sister!"

I bet that you could figure this out yourself, if you use all the info you have learned!!  Just experiment around.  I'll give you two hints: you will be cutting and pasting alot from the bottom of the 'post reply' page to the white box.  Also, you will be using that quote icon alot (the next to the last one, above the white box where you type your reply)
