Spicy composers?!
on: May 06, 2026, 03:47:07 PM
For all you people who love listening to piano repertoire (standard repertoire) —

1. Who is the spiciest composer for piano solos (and concertos)?

2. What’s your perspective on seductive composers and their works?
Does seductive oeuvre to you mean lush, romantic yearning (e.g. Rachmaninoff, early Scriabin, etc.) or diabolical seduction and obsession (e.g. Prokofiev, Pierre Sancan’s toccata, etc.)? Which side are you on?

3. What have u used to build technique in your piano journey? Czerny, Hanon, études, Bach, just scales/arpeggio sets, Godowsky-Chopin (no, just kidding)? Pick your poison!

There is no wrong answer, of course, but just am interested in hot takes!

I think "seductive composers/music" is when straight men are attracted to the woman playing the piece.

E.g. I don't remember who (I believe either dizzyfingers, essence, or frodo), but someone on this forum was depraved enough to post:

in response to me posting Elisa Tomellini's recording of Liszt - S. 140 no. 4b.

All of the above (except Godowsky for obvious reasons), and Liszt S. 146 would be among those as well but I haven't had access to a piano in over a year and I didn't find out about them until late 2025.

Omg!! I meant in regards to their music and pieces and style of their music, not the composer as a person! My fault for not clarifying…I assume my original post came across as a little absurd.

I still don't know what "spicy" means, and I stand by my comment in regards to "seductive music:"

It wasn't me.

Also, if you were able to do the quote, weren't you able to see who wrote it?

There's an "insert quote" function that allows you to insert custom quotes, which is what I used here since I don't know where the original quote was.

Quote from: Liszt-and-the-Galops
For example, this isn't a real quote. The BBCode is [ quote ] without the spaces. You can add the author (and maybe other stuff) following the same format as normal quotes, so author=xxxxx.

You can tell that it's not real by the fact that the "quote from [etc.]" text doesn't link to the original quote, i.e. shows up as grey rather than yellow.

Hardly spicy. You should see what i say about some passages of Scriabin. Or what I like doing with Bruckner 8th Adagio blasting away, followed by the last movement (geddit!). Or where i go to the last movement of Mahler's 9th.

BTW, L&TG quoted me incorrectly, i said 'wake up with' not 'be in bed with'. Very different connotations.
