I don't like one bit of the Moonlight Sonata, and I'm not too big on the Pathetique either. Amongst other things, any Saint-Saens for me.
A piece which I really dislike when played in its entirety is Ravel's Bolero. I like the first minute, and the last minute, but the 10 minutes inbetween just keeps repeating the first minute. It gets quite boring.

If you mean well known bands;I HATE Eminem and all of those rappers!
Ravel hated it too
Any piano piece by Godowsky
rap isnt all that bad, most of the mainstream sucks but if you dig deep and look for underground artists rap can be real poetic andn actually relaxing to listen to
The Moonlight and the Pathetique are great sonatas. The problem I have is figuring out how I'd see them if they were nothing more than Op. 27 No. 2 and Op. 13. The Pathetique, for instance, was the first of its kind to use that sort of mysterious prelude, which I find extremely important to the first movement. The second movement has a melody that it nothing short of unforgettable. One of the most romantic and sensitive movements ever written, in my opinion, as overdone as it is. And the third movement, admittedly the weakest in my view, at least adds exciting closure to the sonata.
Well personally, I was at my friend's house today. He had to put on some music, ya know, the general stuff people like nowadays. All of the stuff I heard was insanely repetitive and boring, and I heard myself hearing the same tonic to dominant chords being played incessantly. My ears almost fell off. Let's be honest, most of the so called "musicians" nowadays, don't know how to read music, and some don't even know how to sing, resorting either to lip-syncing or yelling! Come on, that's the epitome of terrible. And the music sounds like it was worked on for a few days. Give me some good synthesizers, a decent singer, and optionally, a lyricist, and I could make something over three times better than any of these people. And rap, that isn't music. Put that under spoken word. Really. Little sense of melody, and absolutely no harmony at times. All just the *** rythm. And guess what? It's always similar. And we are referring of course to the mainstream stuff that everyone listens to. You can't expect us to be counting all the stuff few people listen to. You know, there is a reason why "Drop it Like it's Hot" is much more popular than lots of the other stuff you are probably thinking about. I once had the misfortune of hearing this nonsense garble. How could anyone even like this pile of cacophonous mixtures of sounds. Dare it even be compared to sound? It's not like there was even a remotely interesting beat to it. Absolutely no melody or something memorable besides the uttered phrase which correlates with the title. Some rap is ok, and I don't mind Eminem too much as he's a little bit crazy and weird, and he likes to say whatever he likes, which makes me have hope that maybe freedom of speech still exists. Plus he doesn't have a drum set as the only instrument audible in his music. Anyways, I'm done with my little rant here.
completely agree...but its when people mistake what they hear on the mainstream radio for Hip Hop, thats when it really gets to me. I was a hip hop enthusiast way before i was into classical music (but classical music dominates my CD case these days)...like i said...i really do see eye to eye in just about every point you made but what i wanted to specify in my previous post was...people overgeneralize a beautiful genre (Hip Hop) due to bad expriences regarding black rappers in jerseys rhymin about money and sex...i dont expect everyone to be educated in true hip hop poetry and break beat compositions with beautifully structured harmonies and melodies like Pete Rock's works...or even DJ Shadow and his piece (Organ Doner) with the backbeat and the organ in a fugue-like sequence (he admitted himself that Bach's Little Organ Fugue piece was inspiration for this vinyl track)...but it just really pains me that people get turned off by the entire Hip Hop genre due to the retarted dissonant slang and slurring they hear on the radio...kids these days...hip hop hooray
Ok? Thanks.
Hey, here's a thought: what if Richter, His Glorified Majesty and Demi-God of the Known Universe, descended from his throne at the right hand of God himself to play the Moonlight sonata?I bet SteinwayGuy'd be licking it up then. Oy.
