Something I wrote myself
on: April 29, 2005, 03:45:34 PM
It isn't classical, think its jazz, as its quite upbeat and has an improvisation feel to it (although it does use a lot of 7th chords, which is common in blues ?)

anyway its the first time i've written anything in this style, and was wondering what you think of it.

Its the second half the song, eg, the instrumental improvisation half just after the first time round with the singer singing. Theres a little trumpet solo in there aswell to add variation  ;D

could someone also tell me if this jazz or blues, or neither !

comments appreciated

Thanks

i actually hear more country in there than anything else...

i gotta leave classification of this to the experts, but i definately isn't blues, i think.

Cool, i like it.  Yeah not blues, it is hard to classify and i'm by no means an expert but it sounded like a late jazz "melody" over an almost pop chord progression.  Sounded like you used the diminshed scale a lot, did you mean for it to sound that experimental?  Cool though, only one critisism, i assume you used a drum machine for the drumming, i would get a real drummer and stick in a swing rhythm, that drumming was kind of jarring.  I say this as a drummer as well as a pianist.  How many people on this forum write stuff as well? i'd be interesting to know that.  I do, i would stick something up but i have no recordings.

I dont think its blues or country.  Quite an interesting style, and a unique contrast between augmented 4th key (diminished 5th key),  and its kinda weird.  Not bad for first composition.   ;D

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
