The End of an Era: Keith Jarrett's Return to his Roots
Keith Jarrett, one of the greatest musicians and profilistic pianists of our time, has recently announced that he will no longer be able to hold up his career as a performer. Now 75, he suffered a pair of draining strokes two years ago that left his left side paralyzed and resulting in an unability to play the piano. Copland has some piano pieces ("Four Piano Blues", a sonata...), but I haven't heard them.

Is anyone familiar with them or has played any ? What kind of music is it ? Cowboy like ? Is it worth playing ? Is it hard ? Which one would you recommand ?

I've played The Cat and the Mouse by Copland.  Its a pretty discordy piece, with lots of chords and crashes on the keys.

I just played Copland's "Midsummer Nocturne" at a piano competition this morning! It's a pretty cool little piece. It's very thoughtful, and meandering. You ought to look it up!

By the way, what recording of his piano music do your recommand ? I usually get Naxos for first approach to new music, but I don't think they have anything on piano for Copland...
