Need a little fingering help
on: June 03, 2005, 10:55:40 AM
I am practicing Liszts Dante Sonata, and Im in doubt about how to play this section.
I have put a suggestion in it on how I would play the first section. Since im amature I would like you pros to give me a hint on how you think it should be played..
thanks

i've not played the dante, and some books have fingerings already in them. But, i'll take a stab. with your lh fingering i would make it 54321,321. also, on the 'piano' c# you probably want a less strong finger than 1 (how about a very gentle, massaging 34 combo in lh. and 23 in rh)

do you know why benches fall apart? it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them. hint: buy a bench that does not hinge. buy it for sturdiness.

OK, I think I will stick to my own fingering, I have already incorporated it into context, but the second passage in my attachment above I still have doubts about how to do..

you could also try in the rh 1234, 1234 and the lh 4321, 4321
i tried it several times both ways and i can personally play it faster with using this fingering.

Have a try of:
RH: 12 12345 1
LH: 54 53212 5 or (54321) 5 whatever to you seem's better. I prefer the first.
To me it seems you can get most control out of the cresendo with this.

Greetings Jkristiand
I don't like the lh fingering in the first passage at all. I would try 4321 4321 5
For the second passage try - rh 432
1
4321
4
- lh 123
1
1231
4
I try to avoid using 5 during a scale or other run passage if I can and use it as the fingering for the last note. You'll notice that the rh and lh
1
and
4
fingers are played in close proximity to each other in the second passage and I found that it helps me keep it smooth and with the proper timing (offset).
Hope that helps,
Cheers
