I have been reading a lot about how great the two part inventions are as learning devices, so I have decided to have a go at one that is listed in my AMEB grade 5 syllabus. There were only a few available and of them no. 15 was by far my favourite. (the music can be found for free on this very website)

I have read many of the topics regarding the learning of the two part inventions, especially paying attention to the tips bernhard has given, and I intend to follow his recommended method of learning them...which can be seen at:

I have spent some time looking for the appearances of the motif in this piece and have found what I think might be the motif appearing 7 times in its original form. I am certain though that there is much more here then what I am seeing.

The phrase that I believe is the motif appears first on the treble clef (RH), starting at bar 1: 2nd beat, continuing to and including bar 2: 3rd beat. It can then be found again bar 3- 4 (LH), bar 5-6 (RH), bar 12-13 (LH), bar 14-15 (RH), bar 18-19 (LH) and finally bar 19 (starting on 3+) to bar 21 up to and including the 1st beat.

I am sure that there is much more for me to look for, I just don't know what it might be. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Sure, I would love to join the fun (though maybe not today).  It is one of my fantasies to do this with all of the inventions and sinfonias.  This would be a great topic for the new Music theory board located up above this student's corner  (you can move your own topic) :

I'll be back :).

You finally got a nibble, Pianarchist! Be sure to spell her name right.  :) :) :)

Only kidding. I'd like to join the analysis, but you and m1469 are way ahead of me.

Maybe I'll just lurk

Hi m1469, I don't really what to look fort next without some guidance, so it would be great if you could help me out.

Just curious...Do you think this topic should go to the music thoery section because it doesn't belong here or because it will get more responses there?
