I believe you must have been very lucky.
What have you learned of Bernhard ?

I guess I'm lucky to be lucky.
I've learned of Bernhard that you guys were mocking him until he left the forum.

Ibty was as arrogant as you when he first came here.
He has changed. Can you?

Of course I can, I'm actually a very nice person, but when attacked I react.
Best,
Rami

I've kept quiet for some time, and sat back and observed. Speaking as an adult who attends, from time to time, piano camp/summer school, and therefore presumably the sort of person that Mr. Bar-Niv is seeking to attract, I think I'd now like to say why I wouldn't go to his piano camp.

1) Geographical reasons.
2) More pertinently: Mr Bar-Niv seems to come with a considerable amount of "attitude". I appreciate that it can be unfair to judge someone's persona from what they say on an internet forum. Equally, I understand that he's attempting to promote himself.
There's no doubting that Mr. Bar-Niv is a perfectly respectable pianist, and may well be a decent pedagogue also, but I'm sorry; I'd prefer someone with a little more humility and a touch less condescension.

Mr. ronde_des_sylphes,
It's people like you that I am not seeking to atract.
Best,
Rami

Indeed, you would not want anyone in your camp that could play you under the table.

Thanks, Thal. For what it's worth, I happen to think Mr. Bar-Niv is a better pianist than I am. His response to my comment, however, defies belief. I wonder why he wouldn't want me at his camp. I'm sure my money is as good as anyone else's.

These are the type of people he wants to attract.  ;D

FYI, these type of people are piano teachers and very serious players.
The one in the middle has 17 preludes and fugues of WTC book 1 memorized + many other pieces. The one at the top plays massive Brahms pieces. The one at the bottom performed at the camp's concert the Warsaw concerto.

Really, please don't descend into this kind of pettiness.  First of all you can't judge a book by the cover, and second of all anyone who goes to a piano camp to play and learn should be a friend to pianoforum.  You should be ashamed of yoru comments!

BTW, in the end of their productive but ultimately depressing lives, Bartok and Schoenberg's students were destined to be just amateur musicians (for the most part).  In fact, many of those students were not even aware of the huge stature their teacher held in music history.  This is because of Bartok's unfailing modesty about his great piano-playing, and Schoenberg's ideas which were way above the level of any of his students.  You never know who you are talking to, or about, so it's better to treat with respect!

In which case you can perhaps understand the mental process by which I arrived at my less than wholly positive opinion of you.

If not, I'm sure I could quote some posts which contributed to my conclusions.

Anyways, it is ultimately of little importance, so best of luck with the pupils that you do get.

No, I can't. You arriving at your opinion did not mean that you had to voice it and that you had to do so publicly.

If not, I'm sure I could quote some posts which contributed to my conclusions.

You should also read (and quote, if you so choose) the posts that led me to write the posts which contributed to your conclusions and perhaps your conclusions would have been a little different, though I doubt it due to your initial post here which was uncalled for, just like all the other posts attacking me.

Anyways, it is ultimately of little importance, so best of luck with the pupils that you do get.

Thank you, this is a nice thing to say, for a change.

Fair enough.

However, it seems you find it difficult to understand how I might get a negative impression from comments like:

Can you do better?
Best wishes,
Rami

in response to a remark which was far from a purely negative comment on your playing ie
[As for those youtube videos...they're definitely concert standard, but I'm not sold. Sorry.]

To say nothing of this..

I am definitely not less good then either of them.
Best,
Rami

(them being Michelangeli and Argerich!)

Now what I actually said, ie

More pertinently: Mr Bar-Niv seems to come with a considerable amount of "attitude". I appreciate that it can be unfair to judge someone's persona from what they say on an internet forum. Equally, I understand that he's attempting to promote himself.
There's no doubting that Mr. Bar-Niv is a perfectly respectable pianist, and may well be a decent pedagogue also, but I'm sorry; I'd prefer someone with a little more humility and a touch less condescension.

was a direct result of comments like the ones I have quoted above (and plenty of others also). If the teacher whose piano camp I have attended periodically were to come out with remarks like that, I think he would have lost credibility in my eyes. I am left with an impression which may be a wholly unjust reflection on you - I am quite prepared to admit this, as indeed my initial comment stated - but I arrived at it through reading your posts; and so I respectfully suggest that some of your comments are not doing your self-advertisement any good. Furthermore, I think that if you are going to make such comments on a public internet forum, you should expect that people are going to arrive at an opinion and may be inclined to voice it.

However, as I said, best of luck with your piano camp.

In your eyes and some others here. On the other hand, as I mentioned before, I've also had positive reactions to my posts and comments here, on line and privately.

Furthermore, I think that if you are going to make such comments on a public internet forum, you should expect that people are going to arrive at an opinion and may be inclined to voice it.

Yes, and that's the ugly part here, as there's no need to say negative things to and about someone who initially did not harm you in anyway.

However, as I said, best of luck with your piano camp.
Thanks again.

I'm sorry; clearly I had not realised that you have the right to make self-aggrandising remarks without attracting criticism that can be construed in any way as negative.

P.S. As (odd though you may find it) I do not actually mean you any ill will, perhaps you could satisfy my curiosity on one question. If one of your pupils has significantly different views on interpretation to you (and can provide reasons to back up those views), how do you respond?

I'd be very happy. It does happen often. I don't force my interpretation on my students, I suggest things and I do encourage them to form their own interpretation. Providing reasons to back up views is a very good and important thing, as things need to be not only emotional, but also make sense.

It's doing well since I "advertised on all the piano forums".

If you were that good, you wouldn't need to advertise at all, as word of mouth is the best advertisement there is.

My camp is new and until now I only had one session, which was last November. I take only 6 people and they were all extremely happy.

I don't understand why a simple request for applicants to attend a piano camp generated 148 posts (so far), most of them critical or sarcastic.  I started reading this topic at the end and then went back to the beginning to see what the problem was and I just don't see it.  The initial post was straightforward and yet within one or two responses the sarcasm began.  There must be some personal issues going on here that the casual reader of the Forum would not be aware of.  This reminds me of the topic of "high school piano recital" that has gone on and on and now has nothing to do with the original subject.  Just my thoughts on the matter which just goes to show that I probably am not doing what I should be, like catching up on reading.
