Bach P+Fs aren't as immediately satisfying as the showpieces you mentioned, but i'm sure that when you get stuck into one you will have an epiphany and begin to love it. I would recommend the c minor from the first book, as the prelude is very dramatic and showy, while the fugue is one of the easier ones (only 3 voices) and also has quite a dramatic subject. There are lots of resources here and elsewhere for learning fugues. I suggest you look at them or the fugue will be extremely difficult to learn!
