I would say Prelude in D flat, op 32, #13.  Big, huge chords, beautiful melodies. His last prelude.. a kind of release if you will.

The middle section of his Prelude Op. 23 No. 5... one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard... if played at the proper tempo. Too fast and it doesn't sound that great.

In what other sense would one encounter an orgasm?  Are you perhaps thinking of "orgiastic"? It sill has sexual connotations, but a little less overtly.

I agree with minstrel that Op. 32, No. 13 has much to commend it, although the piece is not as well known as some of the other preludes. The chromaticism of the last page in particular is absolutely stunning ultra-romantic music!  That prelude seems to be eclipsed by its close neighbor, No. 12, which, unfortunately, has turned into a conservatory anvil.  Although I play about half of the preludes in Ops. 23 and 32, I don't yet play 32/13, but definitely have it on my "to-do" list.  When I can get it onto the practice schedule and work it up, I'll someday post it in the Audition Room here.  At the moment though I'm concentrating on Bortkiewicz's works.

Yeah, I think what elevateme actually meant to say was orgiastic, not orgasmic.  The two words are easily confused.

Yeah, it could mean pertaining to "ensemble" as you put it.      But a second definition of orgiastic is "arousing or causing unrestrained emotion" which, I think is the word elevateme was looking for.

Oh good, then I don't have to go out for track and take a cold showers after listening to my Rachmaninov CDs   "arousing or causing unrestrained emotion"  - that could get dicey if I'm driving somewhere while listening...better stick to Vaughn Williams.

Well, except for listening to Vaughn William's "Serenade to Music" or "The Lark Ascending".  Rachmaninoff used to be moved to tears hearing to pieces like that.
