need something else in the Olympics
on: February 18, 2010, 02:59:47 AM
A death.  Sad and nice way to start.

Curling...  That's not right.

Hotdogging skiiers... also not right.

Women crashing down the ski slope.   ::)  Kind of amusing but not very Olympic.  And it happened over and over and over.

And then the winners cry?  Olympians don't cry.

I want to see some battles.  Epic battles.  I want to see two athletes skiing down the hill, carrying a giantic snowball, trying to knock the other one (or others) out of the race.  We need a little more brutality here.

No more crying.  No more crashing.  No more pushing little stones around.

(Bob kind of misses the Cold War.)

Nothing wrong with a little bloodlust.

I've got one.  Skiing (or maybe not even that)  combined with paintball.  Put a certain number of competitors out on a defined snowy space and the winner is the last one who's not hit.  Could be singles, doubles, team, daytime, nightime.  Send them off at a certain point.  Maybe it goes on without a time limit.  Maybe they can take whatever they can carry.  No communication with the outside world.  Stick GPS trackers on them, have little cameras on them, cameras around the field.  It wouldn't have to be a steep hill so someone gets killed (or trips and slides down and down and down).  I'd go for that over a lot of the events.  It could a winter and summer event.  Each location would be a little different.

I don't think the Olympics are there to appease and entertain the masses for political reasons.

Finally some events where they're doing their best.  I think the Olympics is about doing their best, not winning because someone else tripped.

I'm pretty $ure the Olympic$ are only about one thing, in the$e time$.

Also, I propose a sport called  the "Castrathon".  You have to manually castrate as many people with IQ's < 100 in four minutes as you can.  It's fun to watch and it's good for the environment.

Also, Knife Eating and "Catch the Bullet with your Chest" would be awesome sports.
If this work is so threatening, it is not because it's simply strange, but competent, rigorously argued and carrying conviction.

I did hear something about it not being countries anymore, but corporate sponsors with their mascots now.

I still like "the hunt" idea.  It's got the primal element to it.  Paintball.  Lasers.  Whatever.

Coming to the Summer Olympics 2012.... Olympic Tag.

Hey Bob, you must be in the US where NBC bought the rights to not show it. I'm watching the same coverage and it stinks. If we don't have a participant with a "story" the event won't be shown. Camera time goes to the crying and the crashes.

Remember in the US "if it bleeds it leads" and fires always go first unless there is a high speed pursuit covered live from the chopper heading for the border. "People's dirty laundry" is true.

Anywhere in Europe the coverage is better. They show everything regardless of the hour. People would come in to work sleepless having watched the speed skating from Salt Lake.

(Bob sees the Russian women's curling team. :o)

You know I may have been a little hasty in putting down curling.  I think it's a vital Olympic sport.  It's tradition.  A game of skill and strategy.  Curling has a long history of competitiveness and is an important part of this year's Olympics.  "привет.  Как дела... baby?  Очень приятно!  I couldn't help noticing the way you were moving that rock.... Do you sweep here often?" 8)

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to see if it's possible to mail order something....

[That was a joke.  How are they picking members of these curling teams?  And why is there a difference between men's and women's curling?  It's not like there's a big advantage if you're stronger.]

And why is there a difference between men's and women's curling?

Women have an unfair advantage coz they have spent much more of their lives using a broom.

Ban Curling and save Aisla Craig.

The Monty Python Team had some interesting ideas for an Olympics.

(Bob puts his hands out to feel the sunshine and considers basking in it.)

(Yeah, yeah... Who cares about sunshine?  Who care about basking in it?  Who cares about caring whether people care or not about sunshine and its baskworthiness?)  (Bob whistles the Mr. Ginch song... but who cares about that?  And who cares about whistling?  And parenthenses?)

(raises eyebrow)  What's this?  Curling is looking a bit more interesting than I remember from previous Olympics (Olympicses?).

Who cares about curling?  (Bob cares a little more about curling.)

 8) Hello....   (That's hello in Canadian.)

And "Goddag."

I Didn't Say "Who Cares About The Sunshine" And The Other Stuff You're Talking About. :-)

But Frankly, Some of Them Are Actually Not Care-Worthy. :-)

That was a likely response.  Since I beat you to it, you changed your response now. (Who cares about responses?... *alla a lonely Seinfeld*  What's up with responses?  Who's the genius who came up with that?  .... and a three hour tour?!)

Why not wresling? Like almost nude chicks wresling in the snow? .. But since some ppl would call it sexsistic (or what ever it's called in english) I would also suggest snowball-war, but with dwarvs, or tiny children... Who's with me?!

Now there's an Olympic sport I'd actually watch.

Olympians should not drool while competing.  Or any other time for that matter.

(Bob is grossed out.)  And it's the winter Olympics so that drool freezes.  Yuck.

I'm amused.  (Bob laughs quietly at South Korea.)  That's so funny it's the same judge.
