Easier Beethoven Sonatas
on: August 02, 2010, 11:18:47 PM
I was just wondering waht would be a good Beethoven piano sonata to learn as my first. Which would be easiest from both technical and stylistic viewpoints, other than the two little sonatas Opus49?
As regards my level on piano, I could play any of them...

Op 2/1. More difficult than the Op 49, but very characteristically Beethoven.
Also look at Op 10/1

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

op. 14/1 was my first, and i think it's a great place to start. some great music, plenty of beethovenian gesture, and some tricky technical passages, but nothing daunting. both of the op. 14 sonatas are at about the same technical level.

The search function would yield useful results, such as:

Try op. 2-1 or 14-2.

Thanks very much for your suggestions! I think I will give Opus 2 No 1 a shot to begin! I suppose it makes sense from the point of view that it is Beethoven's first as well!

If you look closely at all the sonatas one or two are marked " Easy sonatas"

ara, those are the Op. 49 sonatas.
I think you should check out the WoO sonatas... They're not published with the 32, but they're piano sonatas just like any other piano sonata Beethoven wrote. They're also not quite as hard as most of the 32.
Barry Cooper publishes all 35 piano sonatas of Beethoven.

there are so many threads on this forum that are only asking for easiness of repertoire. We need to learn how to challenge ourselves

The pathetique is not that difficult to handle note wise or op.10 no.2.

Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.
