Is it correct that the composer's name does NOT start with a 'B'?

No, it is not correct.

The composer name (surname) does start with a "B".

Was the composer a late starter?? (scarlatti)

I guess you could say that - he started composing around 19. But not as late as Scarlatti.

Did the composer work in Leipzig?

Yes, he did (and died - excuse the pun - there too)

Can I start a game?  I have a piece in mind-it's probably rather easy, but oh well.

Yes, you can.

All you have to do is win this game. Guess the piece and the thread is all yours! ;D

So far, everything fits J.S.B., doesn't it?

Has the piece been written specifically for keyboard?

I think we need to switch to questions that must be answered with "yes" or "no". Asking for the composers birth date, key signatures, etc. is just giving it away. It's almost like asking "What's the opus number".

Not necessarily, since Beethoven wrote 4 sonatas in Eb major. But I agree that given the number limitation it is prettly obvious it is no. 4, Op.7.

I had no idea that the piece had a name, I've never heard "Grand Sonata" before.  Sorry if that misled you.

I agree to a point.

At the same time, if all the answer you get is yes or no, then it becomes sort of boring.

I like when cryptical statememts like ayahav's "I was born before my sibling..." are made.

So what about this new rule: You can only ask yes or no questions, but any poster has the right to ask from the riddler a cryptical statement about the work (cryptical statements being limited to one per poster, that is, once you requested yours, you can request no more).

'Standard repertoire' has always been a problematic term for me... It varies... I am not sure how to answer this... It's not quite as well-known as "Für Elise", but not as obscure as most music by Berio.

The composer was not born in Hungary....

Was the composer French?

Is the piece longer than 5 minutes (unless Argerich is playing it)?
