I'm fairly certain that's correct. I dont think that makes his first sonata any less Sonata No. 1 however :)

Just got in touch with my piano prof for this year; he gave me a few things to work on so that I'll be ready in September.

Bach - Prelude and Fugue in Bb minor Bk1
Haydn - Sonata in E minor
Chopin - Nocturne Op 48 #1
Debussy - Le Vent dans la Plaine
Rachmaninoff - Prelude Op 32 #12

Luckily, I've been working at the Debussy and Rachmaninoff for a bit now, so those are pretty good.  The Haydn is pretty straightforward too.  The Bach and Chopin are going to be the most work out of all of them.

My 'what have you been working on' always change lol.  When I have off time from a teacher I go off and play random things, but with some actual suggestions, it's a little easier knowing that I have a goal in place.

Hey Grace - didn't know someone else was learning the 1st Partita of Bach's...

Good stuff. Do you happen to have a youtube video of your interpretation? I've never been brilliant with bach in almost any regard, but I'd like to see what you do with it for a bit of inspiration...

Janacek - On an Overgrown Path - some of the movements are really beautiful, and the bit playing 4/8 in one hand and 5/8 in the other is (finally) fun.

Bach dminor P&F from WTC I - It's amazing how much rhythmic and melodic interest can be hidden in non-stop triplet 16th notes.

Bach 2 part invention in c minor - trying to get it to sound like one, long, beautiful, relaxed sentence.

Schubert Impromptu Op 90/1 I love the crashing and banging and playing cross rhythms in one hand. Working on trying to make the variation with the tune and accompaniment in the right hand and staccato bass in the left sound right, bring out the melody, keep the arpeggios smooth and the bass subtle.

Chopin Etude 10/1 - Way beyond me to perfect, but still fun to practice relaxation in arpeggios.

Albeniz Granada - Not too hard; I used to play it on the guitar, a guitar transcription of a piano piece written to imitate the guitar. It's easier on the piano.

The summer is INCREDIBLY hot and I think it has affected my motivation...still keep up, though.

LOL, from rather difficult (nearly gruelling, for my part) informally-taught pieces such as Fur Elise and An Alexis, to beginner pieces given by my teacher such as Bach's Minuet in G Minor...

I've been working through some of my stuff that I need to have at a decent level by July.

From that stuff, this is what I'm mostly working on:

Chopin - Etude Op 10 #1
Beethoven - 32 Variations in C minor
Chabrier - Idylle and Scherzo-Valse (from pieces pittoresques)
Bartok - Romanian Dance Op8a #1

The Chopin is going REALLY well considering how many people call it a 'beast'.  The Chabrier is ok, and the Bartok is nearly done note-wise.

The Beethoven is tough!  It makes perfect sense, but you have to beast it to get through some of those variations!!  It's great though for fingering, because right away the first three variations really throw some strange sh*t at you!

I still have Rameau's Gavotte Varie and the Mendelssohn Rondo Capriccioso to start looking at!!  I'm going to have a BUSY June  ;)

All this is for my teacher in canada, since i'm going back next month!!! YAY :D
I started these pieces just around 1 and a half months ago (except for the haydn sonata) cause I've been too busy with school here & had 2 lessons a week from 2 diff teachers during school time.

Bach 2 Sinfonias
Haydn Sonata no.52 in E flat major 1st mvt
Schumann Scenes from Childhood
Liszt Transcendental Etude no.9 Ricordanza

and finally she requested that i relearn an old piece for her so
Chopin Etude op.10 no.8 (which i played for my ARCT exam just a little less then 2 yrs ago)- picked this bc i was extremely prone at that time to arm tension and couldn't play this well at times, did the worse for this during my exam :( and i want to overcome it.

Schubert - Impromptu op 90 no. 4 (I'm playing a lot of Chopin, so my teacher is very happy i choose a composer that not listen to the name Chopin)

I hope you later come to appreciate it. Even though it is overplayed, I think it is beautiful, and sometimes, when I am in the mood for slower music, I love listening to it and reading through it.

Right now I'm playing:

-Bach Prelude and Fugue 3 in C# Major Bk. I
-Beethoven Sonata Quasi una Fantasia op. 27/1
-Chopin Ballade 3 op. 47
-Granados Allegro de Concierto
-Chopin etude op. 10/1
-Clementi etude 15 (Finale)

The best are the clementi and beethoven, which I find the two easiest of the six. The most difficult, probably Chopin etude and Granados (absolutely killer)...

Yay for new pieces! Just finished DipABRSM (though I think I failed :-\) so...

Albéniz: Evocación and El Puerto from Iberia

Haydn: Sonata No. 33 in C minor

Mendelssohn: Fantasie in F-sharp minor (my teacher says the whole thing, but there's no way I can play the last movement, so I'll probably just play the first movement)

Ravel: Valses Nobles et Sentimentales (I kind of started this before, but I didn't actually get into it)

It’s nice to see someone else, kelly_kelly, working on Ravel’s Valses Nobles & Sentimentales.   This for me is my major work for now … I’ve progressed No. I through No. V, but not yet up to speed, especially No. I at 176.

I have learned Le Gibet from Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit and am now working on the interpretation to get the ultimate feeling of the piece.

finally back in canada and met my teacher for a lesson yesterday Morning :)

what I'm learning:
Haydn Sonata in E flat major Hob:52 (1st& 2nd mvts)
Chopin Etude op.25 no.6
Schumann Scenes from Childhood
Liszt Transcendental Etude no.3 "Landscapes"
Liszt Annees de Pelerinage Suisse nos.7&9
Mendelssohn Song without words op.19b no.1

the chopin etude,Liszt etude and Annees de Pelerinage no.9 are all new pieces which were assigned just yesterday. I'm so glad to be back with this teacher...in fact she kept saying what ever problems I face has nothing to do with my technique rather it has to do with my rhythm because sometimes i try to be too musical. I'm coping well too :)

Chopin - Nocturne No. 3 (Op. 9 No. 3)
Albeniz - Cordoba from "Cantos de España"  (Op.232)
Albeniz - Granada from "Suite Española" (Op. 47)

When the Nocturne is finished this month I will start with Chopin's Ballade No. 3 Op. 47.
Albeniz is only for fun!

Good luck with that Chopin 25/6!  :)

Right now, it's:

-Brahms Ballades Op. 10 (SO beautiful!!!)
-Ravel Concerto in G

And I'm messing around with other pieces, too.

Thanks!:) Have fun with the Ravel Concerto!

There's been quite a big change because I& my teacher decided before I came back that I will do my LRCM exam next year...she assigned me quite a number of pieces for technique as well and a whole lot of rep I can learn and pick from to play for my exam

This is what I'm working on for now...
Bach Toccata in c minor BWV 911
Haydn Sonata in E flat major Hob.52
Grieg Piano Concerto
Liszt Annees de Pelerinage Swiss no.7
Chopin Etudes op.10 no.2& op.25 no.6
Liszt Transcendental Etude no.5 Feux Follets

These are the other pieces that she chose for me, i'll work on some of them when the current ones I'm working on have been learnt properly
Bach Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue,Chopin Barcarolle op.60,Debussy Pour Le Piano,
Mendelssohn Variations Seriesus,Schubert Piano Sonata D.958/D.959,More Selections from Liszt Annees de Pelerinage, more chopin Etudes, Liszt Transcendental Etudes Wild Jagd& Harmonies du soir, Mendelssohn's Capriccio Brillant,Chopin's krakowiak as well as A prokofiev piece of my choice

J.S Bach Italian Concerto,Beethoven Sonata op.2 no.2,Mozart Sonatas K.330&333,Chopin Scherzo no.2,Etude op.10 no.12&Fantasie Impromptu

Just looking at messages in this thread from #300 onwards, it is indeed most depressing to note that hardly anyone appears to be learning anything written after the lesser of Ravel's two piano concertos, a work completed 80 years ago!

Apart from Bolcom, you appear to be correct.

I find it more understandable than depressing, as being the Student thread, do we not within reasonable parameters tread the same path before reaching the crossroads and deciding which way to go???
