who says new age isn't good
on: May 19, 2012, 12:28:18 AM
I think perhaps chopinatic and myself are the only "regulars" here on this improv forum who ever venture into the so-called "new age" genre. I think it has an undeserved bad rap. Yes, lots of people do it. Yes, there's a huge pile of it that is boring and vapid. But, I actually believe this genre is just as fertile ground as any for musical expression.  Maybe you won't like it, but I sure enjoyed making it.

This was partly inspired by Sunny's excellent video from recently.

This is so beautiful! :)
I would never have put it into the "genre" of "new age" (though I don't have anything against that "genre" per se either, of course. It's always the individual that makes the difference)!!

It might sound strange, but I have a feeling of "wow, now Derek takes off big time with that new instrument!" after all those restrictions of a digital!

It feels like the world of sound that you always imagined becomes suddenly real, at once!

Thanks for those kind words pianowolfi! I really appreciate it. :)  Didn't expect any responses to this one cause of the contemporary flavor of this piece. :)

"New age" can be quite beautiful and peaceful, not to mention emotive pieces, as shown here. I often take new age and try and add some twists to it. This is a great improv, and it has inspired me to perhaps record a few "new age" improvs tonight!
