some more art
on: November 18, 2004, 07:20:33 AM
Now originally I was going to make this lame website to post this up except my computer is mental and didn’t seem to like that idea. So you can just click on the links below instead.
So what am I talking about, well I’ve taken some photos of all the paintings I’ve done this semester (and they’re quite dodgy cos I can’t use a digital camera and don’t know how to get rid of the flash) and I would like you to have a look at them and tell me which one you like the best and which you like the least, as well as possibly just some other comments where you think I could improve or techniques that I should continue with. Unlike some artists I like to produce works that appeal to the audience so the opinions of as many people as possible is very important to me and will help me decide what I’m going to focus on next year- at the moment it’s moving towards attempting some kind of synthesis between music, dance and maths.
So any comments you have will be very useful even if you say that it completely sucks! Thanks heaps all of you, I appreciate you taking the time to help me
So here are the paintings, just click on the links and hopefully they will take you to each painting
Please note that the colours are a lot brighter in real life so excuse the dullness
Oh and if you want to buy any of them or commission something then feel free to!
Still Life
Oils on canvas, 60x75cm
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/pianofish
Still Life
Acrylics on canvas, can’t remember the size, it’s something like 40x50cm
The ballet shoe is sitting on a blanket on top of my piano stool just so you know
Please ignore the giant flash reflection!
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/balletshoe
Mediated Image
Oils on canvas, both are 30x40cm (I think)
Based on a photo of Leise that was Photoshopped. These two works are meant to works as a diptych, the second one is a closeup section of the first using opposite colours
I don’t know why this one looks so dull
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/leise
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/Picture019
Abstract
Acrylics on canvas and some crazy tape on the piano, 60x90cm
This went through a lot of changes (it literally changed every week!) and eventually resulted to this from an ‘I want to kill my piano’ mood!
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/pianomassacre
Pure Abstraction
Acrylics on canvas, 60x90cm
Inspired by the backgrounds from last years body of work and Ross Edward’s ‘Maninya’s’ (I’d be very impressed if any of you actually know what I’m talking about- he’s a composer)
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/maninyas
Abstract/Process
Oils on canvas, 75x75cm
Based on 3D Trig!
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/3dtrig
Mixed Media
Oils, acrylics on canvas, mixed with various texture gels and materials, 2 smaller canvas’s are stuck on, house paint poured over, translucent material and ribbon freely hanging from the top, flowers stuck on, 60x70cm
You really need to see this one in real life to get the full effect cos it’s all 3d and the materials floating around etc.
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/whimsical
Atmosphere
Acrylics on canvas, 75x75cm
Please excuse the flash again. Based on the story of Giselle. I love the reaction to this work where people are like oh how cute she has wings and then I’m like she’s dead and they’re like oh…
https://www.geocities.com/tashcreations/Sylph
And that’s it! I hope you like some of them and thanks for having a look!

Tash, thank you very much for sharing these. I will admit to being a little "scared" of visual art because there is no way for me to know if the artist is serious or pulling my leg sometimes. With music, I know enough that I can tell the difference. But in your case, I think you've really captured something in all these. VERY satisfying to view. Maybe one of these days I'll post pictures of my ironwork, which I probably wouldn't have had the courage to do if you hadn't established this precedent. Thanks again for brightening my morning with your art. You've really got something!

Hi Tash,
1) pianofish-Fantastic!
2) Sylph-Brilliant
It's obvious I am not very keen on complete abstract art. I don't really 'get' it.
Having an interest in Math’s/Numbers/Polygons I really liked- 3dtrig
If you want more Math’s inspiration, do a painting which represents 'Pi' --The most interesting and intriguing number in the Universe.
Pages for inspiration:

aw thanks people! it's always nice to know that people like your stuff, and seeing everyone's different opinions- very interesting.
yeah i was thinking of doing something with Pi cos it's the coolest!i think maths is rather deprived in art (apparently particularly by the female race so my teacher thinks i'm going to go be some feminist artist promoting maths in women or something...) so am reading some stuff about maths in art- it's very interesting.
i'd love to see other people's art, i love seeing how everyone uses different techniques and perceptions so bring them here!
thanks heaps, and any more comments, especially focussing on particular artworks would be bril!

Maninyas doesnt really work for me..Look at picasso's work- even when you are not entirely sure what each shape represents or is, you get a general feeling like cold, evil, erotic, warm, etc.. It just seems a little confusing.. There is nothing to draw my eye in- I have no clue what to look at first and what you are trying to get at.. "whimsical" is a little better- it makes me think about discovering beauty in unxpected places.
Maybe I give poor advice, but I love art that focusses on a single idea, story, or emotion. have a look at this one I did last year:
https://tinypic.com/mkndx
I tried to bring about the feeling of strain and hardship with the creases and lines on the face, exaggerated shadows, and a zoom in to try to make it more intense. Perhaps I was inspired by Don Mclean's "Vincent", the words go "weathered faces lined in pain".
Do you understand what I'm trying to get at?
I do however understand the pianomassacre one...brr it makes me scared of performance! and I have a competition tomorrow!!
Overall Tash, I like your work!
However, I think you are afraid to dive in and risk disaster. Go for it!

I can post a few drawings I've done, but they're not art, rather "studies" of the skeletal structure of extinct felines, and a guess at what they would have looked like alive. I'm tired now, but maybe I'll post a couple tomorrow.

Very cool.
a new dimension to the pf site too.
I like the piano fish, leise, and Sylph best.
I don't much about visual art.

oh yeah donjuan we had to follow a particular theme for each of them, that's what the titles of each little paragraph represents, so the maninyas one was me being forced to do something of pure abstraction. i generally do prefer to have some form of thing for the eye to focus on, but in that one the background was meant to be the main focus. the truth is there is nothing i'm trying to get at! it's purely experimentation and has no real concept behind it.
but thanks for your criticism, that's what i really want, people to tell me what they think could be better cos that's the only way i'm going to improve. btw your pic is bril:)
it'll be better next year when i can focus on what i want to do and not have as many restrictions.

I think a grand piano (or any instrument really) would look cool in the style of the pianofish painting (painting?).
Maybe surreal (?) with fish swimming around the piano.
(I'm not sure if I'm using the right visual art terms here.
)
Just a suggestion. I don't mean to offend with ideas or telling you what to do. I know I don't always like to hear people telling me what to do with music -- Sometimes the ideas are really cheesy.
