What's the story behind your username?
on: October 02, 2005, 04:31:23 AM
This may have been done before (sorry if it has)...

What's the story behind your user name?

Mine doesn't have much significance. I wanted simply dolce (my favorite piano word) but it was already used so I added my name on the end. Dolce jen or "sweet" jen.

Several years ago, I had just come to grips with having run away from a bunch of problems.  I finally decided to deal with "myself" at this point.  My state of consciousness was at such a point where I had decided that I was either going to kill myself, or in essence, I was going to have to ask some very different questions in my life (and be receptive to the answers).

Consequently, I chose the latter and my life turned and took on an entirely different meaning (also triggering me to fully pursue my scholastic, musical, and artistic wishes, as well as set more defined goals in my life).  My outlooks and their manifestations began to change so dramatically that I consciously felt like I had become a different person.  Thus, m1469 was "born".    :-[ :-[

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,9431.msg95494.html#msg95494 ;)

Anyway, a friend of mine made up this Bouter Boogie nickname for me. Kabouter is the word in Dutch for gnome and because I'm not very tall they used to call me kabouter. Bouter is short for kabouter and Boogie sounds rather funny in combination with Bouter so that's how my nickname was born ;D

I wonder how everyone pronounce the Bouter part by the way ;D It sounds like bawter in Dutch, hehe.

I am mad and i like Thalberg.

My real surname is Britchfield. My ancestors were pig farmers in Northamptonshire. A britch in the field is where they stored all the pig waste.

Therefore, i am in fact a heap of crap.

Waldszenen is Schumann's Op. 82, "Forest Scenes" for piano. Not very popular (nor is it particularly well-written but nice to listen to nonetheless).

I chose it not because I like the piece (I DO like it though) but because the name itself sounds cool and it's unique enough for me to be able to use it on any website.

Take a random guess, where I get my name from. Hmm....could it have something to with furry animals that live in South America? Or is it possibly Monty Python related. Or both (*GASP*).

Torpesian Principles of Illusory and Verbose Pontification by the Baron Hans Richter von Torpese

I came across an obscure translation of this text while hiding out in the library during finals week once.  I was supposed to be studying for my Calculus final but instead had dropped some mushrooms and was simply rummaging around the book shelves seeking some other form of mind-expanding enlightenment.  This text was a godsend.  It opened up whole new worlds for me in terms of freeing my inner child from the imprisonment of the bourgeois societal pressures.  It allowed me the ability to prevaricate at will while maintaining a complete and genuine air of accountability.

I simply lopped off the ending of the Baron’s name and became Torp.

It is also an acronym for the following:
Totally Obtuse Ridiculous Prevarication

Btw, all that is a load of crap, but it sure sounds a lot more interesting than “Uh, it’s my last name.”  Which, in fact, is the real truth. ;)

Anthony Robin (Schneider) Bisley

not that interesting really! although I could say it came from my love for trees (arb as in arboricole, french word for tree industry), the verb "is" and some funny semi-french verb "ley" as if I'd run out of inspiration.

Mine's a name from another forum, which was largely about buying property abroad.  When I had to come up with a user name, I thought "all this is just wishful thinking", so that is what I registered as.  It now has sentimental meaning - Aliena, where are you?  8)

my real name is Charlotte  ;D

my username is a double entendre between pianissimo playing (which i think is nice to learn to do - without crouching down and looking like it is some gruesome thing that is very very hard) and pianist imo.  the pianist imo comes from a complex i once had - where you get adulation on the one hand from people who might not even play the piano - looks of approval from half your peers - and insults from your teachers.  i learned to tell myself things like - 'your doing good.  keep it up.'  not that i didn't get that from teachers - but it seems like when you get better - you only get worse for a while.  i'd like to think i'm getting better- but lately i have to practice more.  my goal is to play a piano concerto SOON with any orchestra i can get.  or, perhaps buy some 'music minus one' records and just play concertos for myself.  i think it s the pinnacle of the enjoyment of playing piano - to play a concerto.  you are the 'soloist' after all- and what you say goes.  sort of like becoming a 'god' on this forum - although i wouldn't go quite that far.
