You can all say 'prove it' and I do - but you say nothing.  Why?  Because you can't understand the proof.  THat's why.  Not because there isn't proof.

You dont know what proof is. I used to read some of your giant replies where you tried to proof something. But theres so much rubbish in those that its not worth reading anymore.

Your arguments for your proof are always based on things that A) has no link to that subject at all, or B) things that are far from facts.

Also if you were abit less narrow minded, you could realise that the existence of a God just can't be proven. Else you didnt have to 'belief' in it anymore.

God's existence is a circular argument anyway, you can say he doesn't exist then someone actually comes up with a good argument to prove he does. Not all Christians are brainwashed from birth either.

This explains for those religious and those not - that Jesus Christ never required people observe His birthday in the first place!
[blahblahblahblahblah]

So we're being deceived. So there's a mistake. You mean to say that being of the Catholic/ Christian (at least the most common ones) faith is devil worship? That's ridiculous. If G-d is omnipotent as you claim Him to be, He would know that these people meant to worship HIM.

Conspiracy? Whatever. It is only the fault of the conspirators, so give us a break here. It doesn't help your cause to tell this to people who have nothing to do with it. Bring your case to the people who can actually DO SOMETHING about it. How about flying to Rome soon?

Quote
THE ONUS IS ON YOU TO PROVE GOD IS *not very nice.*

OK, if I must....

The purpose on earth of mankind, I have been assured by many earnest Christians who occasionally accost me and sometimes put pamphlets through my door, is to praise God. The God, that is, who created us and put us on earth. So he created us and put us here just so we can praise him. Well, what a conceited, pompous, self-serving ass. Worse than that, though, he set us all sorts of traps (from Satan to minor everyday temptations, by way of war, pestilence, famine and plague) to test our faith. So he has in fact created us to suffer and still expects us to praise him. Not only conceited..... etc. etc. but a right nasty piece of work.

Now I have never made any secret of my disbelief in religion. But if I'm wrong and the God of conventional western Christians exists, I don't want anything to do with him anyway. Give me the ancient Greek gods any time, they were a colourful lot, and some of the deities of 'minor' religions still in existence around the world sound like the sort of bunch one could engage with, but the bearded bloke who appeared to Moses can kiss my proverbial.

pianistimo,
This is an honest plea.  I'm not trying to pick on you, I'm not upset with you, but I'm concerned with the effect you're having.

This is an international forum.  Millions have access.  For some of them the only example they've ever had of Christianity may be your posts.

And frankly, right now it's not a good example.  I hate to say it, but you're losing it.  Your posts used to be amusing, sincere, well intentioned, misinformed and too long, of course; I could sometimes debate Bible topics with you.  Now they seem, well, mixed up and crazy, like they're beyond your control.  Like you can't stop typing.  I think it may be time to get some help.

I'm not going to participate in these anymore because I don't want to encourage you to act against your best interests.  Hope to see you back in a better frame of mind.
Tim

Well said that man, wise words indeed.

Pianistimo, I don't actually dislike you, but your consistent illegible spam drives me to distraction and i respond with insults. This is not excusing my behavour, but you are partly to blame.

As timothy42b said, some people might have very little experience of Christianity and if such people see your posts, i am pretty certain they would not want anything to do with it. Surely it is not your "mission" to put people off for life.

Your posts are now from someone who is clearly grabbing onto the last straw of sanity and you MUST get some help before lose complete control.

You used to be fun, but you are now so one dimensional, it is sad. You are a prime example of just how Christianity can go wrong and you do yourself and your faith no favours by continuiung to post.

Well, whether you believe or don't believe, jesus would have been ashamed of most christians throughout history. Only today, with some exceptions certainly, there these very nice teachers in religion class who teach pacifism, empathy and freedom of thought. Lately when we were talking about communication, he said that people are too quick with judgements and that a hallmark of a successful communication with another person is to understand that whatever they say, they have reason for it, whatever they wish for and whatever their opinion is, they are first justified in their position. I'm sure pianistimo should enjoy such a treatment although she seems to have missed that part of the religious message. Here are two quotes from jesus i find great:

"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Luke 18:25)"  ;D

"My kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36)" <--- especially important

"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something." - Plato
"The only truth lies in learning to free ourselves from insane passion for the truth" - Eco

I'm not going to argue whether or not God exists, because it is a matter of faith, and if one's mind is set on not believing, one will not believe.

But I want to answer to the best of my ability about why God allows suffering.

We were created with free will. We aren't forced by God to do anything. We can worship Him, or can choose not to; it is up to us. Of course, according to the Bible, Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. The temporal punishment for that original sin is cause for some of our suffering. We are in a broken state.

Then, there is Satan, who can tempt us to disobey God, just as Adam and Eve were tempted. Even causing such bad things to happen can cause us to ask that question of why they happen, which is what Satan wants.

So, it is our choice. We can choose to follow God, but that's not a free ticket to get out of all suffering. But God will use that suffering to help us draw closer to Him, and thus have more peace and happiness.

God created the world, knowing it may rebell, and it did. God tries to draw those back to Him who will listen, and follow His law to the best of their ability.

So, God is very "nice." It is not His fault the world is so evil. In fact, He does everything He can to draw it back to Him. He came into the world, became just like any one of us in everything except sin, suffered in all the ways we do, and even worse, and died for our disobedience and sin. I think that's pretty nice.

Again, if you don't believe in God, this reasoning will seem ridiculous, but I'm not here to argue if God exists.

It's like a conversation I read in a book regarding why God lets us suffer:
"Do you have any children?"
"Yes, one boy aged 6."
"Do you love him?"
"Of course!"
"Do you let him skateboard?"
So he loves us but wants us to make our own mistakes and hopefully learn from them. I have yet to see the latter happen yet though...

Yes Sir, i am with you on this.

To all the people who will spend Christmas locked up in a filthy jail, freezing to death in the streets, considering suicide, those having their houses repossesed, those slowly dying in a dingy hospice etc..... I send to them the most positive energy and wishes for a happy new year if they make it.

Oops, nearly forgot the animals. I send positive energy to all animals, mostly for those on the edge of extinction. Especially, i send nice vibes to all the Polar Bears that are losing their homes due to the economic downturn.

My last bit of positive energy I send to the Earth and the Cosmos.

Peace and goodwill to all.

Well, after 3 years she gets to keep the trophy, so she cannot be considered for next year.

Anyway, hopefully she won't be here next year which will no doubt disappoint a few of her fans that have been adding points onto her "reputation".
