My pets
on: March 27, 2011, 02:13:36 PM
I made a new thread cause I thought I could post things about my other pets here too (like videos and pictures) and other people can also post something about their pets here too of course if someone wants to.

Well some people wanted to see and hear my birds singing and talking so I have made a video... It's a little too dark sometimes and it's mostly just the bigger bird singing. Cause the little one is camera shy I guess, cause when I start recording she just stops making sounds and just watches me and what I'm doing  :) But she is singing a little somewhere after the beginning. And at the end the other bird also talks... he says: Pivi (that's his name) živjo (that means hi) :)
So here's the video: (should I embed it?)

Wow you have so many pets!  :D (how many, exactly? (: )

Thanks for sharing...
I'd post something, but they only time my pets do anything is when it's dinnertime! (:

Thanks for listening to them! :) Well yes I do have a lot of pets... I think I haven't even been talking about all of them here on Pianostreet yet! Well maybe it can be a surprise... I'll post pictures and videos about them here and then you'll get to know all of them  :) But I have 5 different kinds of pets...  :P

Thanks Wolfi!  :)  8) Yes I think they're trying to sing a melody... but I couldn't figure out yet which one it could be...  :) Probably it's a little confusing for them because I'm playing so many different ones and then I stop practicing some and start new ones... so maybe they're singing a mix of all the pieces I'm playing  :D  :)

Well I remember you mentioned there was the sound of water in your recording, so I'm assuming you have an aquarium? That's what causes water sounds in my recordings anyway :P
And I remember you mentioned your dog. And now you have a video of your birds...
:) :)
I can't wait to get to know all your pets!
I must be nice to have so many pets... You're never alone and you could probably start a band with all your pets  8)

Sorry, didn't watch yet AND, I'm not even posting about actual pets!  I know, the nerve!  But, I somehow have to post in this thread that, we got so much percipitation lately that our ground is saturated!  And, would you like to know what happened?  Yep.  Our lawn flooded.  Oh, what's the significance of that, and how does that pertain to this thread, you ask?  Wonderful question and I'm so happy you asked!  Two ducks decided to make it their home for a little while.  haha.  They were actually swimming around!  Yikes!  Not our pets ... yet ... but it's in the ballpark.

Hello from Naja and Kasiopej :)

Oh and yesterday I saw a really cute frog! It was a little one and it was soooo cute, but I didn't have a camera  :( I tried taking a picture with my phone but it was a little too dark  :-\ and in summer I saw one frog there too, but that one was larger but it was really cute too and I even touched it and it had a really soft skin... I don't know how can some people think frogs are ugly  :o Cause these here are REALLY cute! I wish I could take a better picture sometime... well I wish they could be my pets!  :)  8)

edit: Oh but these two turtles are my pets! :)

You have turtles? Me too!  8) And I think I have the same kind, red ear sliders? I like your aquarium, I need to get a new one for my turtles and then renovate their living space... they've grown sooo big!

Do you put your turtles in the same tank as your fish?

I love frogs too (:
PS: I like the picture of your turtles. I think its cute how one of them has their eyes just out of the water.
Have your turtles ever winked at you before? ;)

Ah that just reminds me, in one of my videos of my playing piano the birds outside just start singing along!
Edit:

My piano playing wasn't so great (sorry, I was distracted)... but the birds' singing was awesome! I posted the video for the birds

Maybe you could make a video of your birds singing along to your music.  8)
It could be a lot better than mine, you guys could practise together. In my video, the birds kind of just improvised (:

Really you have the same ones? Well I'm not completely sure how they're called in English :) I mean if I translate it exactly like it's in my language it would be something like red neck turtles :) so I guess that could be the same :) I mean they have a red line going from their eyes or ears down their neck :)
No no I don't put them in the same tank as fish... I think they would eat them  :-\  :-\ they have really strong bite.
Thanks :) and yes they really DO wink sometimes!  :P  8)  :)

I'm wondering where those frogs that live here are from... I mean I would think there would have to be a pond for the frogs to live here too but it's not...  :-\ except if someone has a pond in their garden and I can't see that! But they would have to have a pond all the time cause I saw that bigger frog in summer when it was really dry and hot! I wish I could have a garden too and a pond!  :)  :P

Yeah, I think they are the most popular kind of turtles for pets...
I was asking because I knew you had fish. My turtles would eat the fish too. I got my turtles from a friend years ago, when she had them she put fish in the tank, and the next day they were gone O.O. Same thing happened to a poor little snail that went in the tank. My turtles would probably eat anything, they LOVE food and become very hyper everyday at dinner time. :D
Thanks! But its not such a popular piece so you wouldn't have noticed all the mistakes.  =/ Can't wait to see a video of you and your bird  8) Maybe you could even compose music with your birds, they could sing and give you ideas !

Ongaku = Music
Oniko is the on reading of 鬼子, which basically means "devil".

It came from when 2ch decided to create a cartoon character of 日本鬼子 (Japanese Devils, a derogatory term for the Japanese used by Chinese people) in order to combat the racism during the fishing boat incident last year.

read up about it on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinomoto_Oniko

I wanted to use this as a name, since I found it to be hilarious, however, as I am not a Japanese person, and do not want to pretend to be one, or be seen as a person who wants to be a Japanese person (I am very proud of my Chinese heritage, and dislike people who pretend to be of another race)

So I just took the last word, Oniko (鬼子)which has nothing to do with japanese, and ongaku (音楽) or music, which is the topic of this forum.

Anyway, point is, ongaku oniko soup doesn't make any sense :P Unless you meant that turtles might want to eat me, which I must assure you that they won't; I probably taste horrible :P

littletune and I already concluded that turtles eat anything  :D

Also... my turtles like to bite and scratch if they don't like you. They may even eat you!
So I suggest you stay away from them, not only for their safety, but for yours.

8D is an image of a face, a person eating something, a person being eaten, and a sideways turtle at the same time?? :P And yes I do love turtles <3

the D is pacman with his mouth wide open, the top of the 8 is a head and the bottom is the body of a person.

Very pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :)

I have a cockatiel too and I adore him.
He is so smart. My father used to be a breeder when he was young at some stage, and he can imitate many birds. He responds immediately. Now (because I talk to my father on Skype), as soon as I call my father on Skype and he answers, he (the bird  :D) starts imitating the birds that my father imitates even when he talks normally because he recognizes him.

Cool! :D ;)
I think cockatiels are fantastic pets! People sometimes don't realize how wonderful and intelligent they are I think, but they are VERY intelligent.
I have even heard a very sad story on another board of a cockatiel who died while trying to defend his owner in a home invasion.  :'(
How old is your cockatiel? Mine will be 2 in August.

I haven't heard about that sad story  :(
Oh your cockatiel is still very young :) Mine is about 4 years old already... and the other bird - the little yellow one is really old already... but we don't know exactly how old because we saved her... because some people brought her to the vet and said they should just kill her cause they didn't wanna have her anymore  :o  :o and they said at the vet that they don't kill animals who are young and healthy and we were just there with my dog when that happened so we said we would take her (first my mum wanted to give her to someone else) but then she stayed with us  8)  :) (and that was before we got this cockatiel so I think more than 5 years ago, and the vet said she was probably about 2 to 3 years old already then) and she is really cute and flying around all the time!!   :) :)
Oh does your cockatiel let you hold him?

Oh, I would have done the same. How terrible they didn't want her any more.  :-[  :'(
Some people are so insensitive. I have also read that some people put their cockatiels in their backyard and totally neglect them if they don't learn to speak and amuse them. This is so cruel!  >:(

Oh yes, my cockatiel lets me hold him and even DEMANDS it...  ;D He is a cuddly little boy who adores to be scratched on the head and cuddled.... Sometimes I find it difficult to play the piano with headphones because he taps on them while sitting on my shoulder and he also likes to chew the cable... So I have to take them off sometimes...  :P
He is sitting on my lap right now...  :D

Do you let your cockatiel out too? They are curious birds and like to explore things, but we have to keep an eye on them, so that they don't hurt themselves.

Yes I let them out every day. But my cockatiel is a little clumsy and he is not flying so very well (especially after he injured himself about half a year ago) and then sometimes he just lands on the floor and then he usually lets me hold him a little, because I put my hand infront of him and he steps on my hand and then he stays there for awhile  :D  :)  :P But otherwise he doesn't let me hold him. And yes I really have to keep an eye on him, cause he's clumsy and we also have a cat!! So when I let them out I have to be around all the time!  :)

... Although I have found some really funny videos on Youtube of cats and cockatiels getting along well!   ;D (Usually they grow up together in such cases I think.)
The problem with my cockatiel is that he really LOVES all sorts of longish shapes, and if I don't pay attention he could chew a cable and get electrocuted... He is like a kitten when it comes to ropes, cords etc.  :P :D

Sorry to hear your cockatiel injured himself some time ago.  :'( It is really good you are giving him your love. My cockatiel breaks his tail feathers all the time when he plays, and I have to check that they don't bleed because bleeding is very dangerous for cockatiels. (I do have some styptic powder just in case...)

Well I'm not really sure if my cat would do anything to the birds or not... but I rather don't try. I mean she is a very nice cat most of the time and she sometimes even gets scared if the birds start flying around a lot  :) ... well but she does sometimes catch some bugs... but that's really different.
Yes I know some birds like to chew cables... you have to be really careful about that! I haven't noticed my birds doing that, I hope they won't start!!!

Well he injured his collar bone and couldn't fly at all for awhile and he was looking really sad and wasn't singing or talking or anything... (well he was still eating) and he had a lump on his chest, so we got really scared! So we were very happy when we found out that it's only an injury and that he'll get better again!  :)

That's very sad, but it's good he will get better again!
How did it happen? Did he hit a wall or a window pane while flying?

I have his wings clipped regularly now. When they are normal length, he likes to fly around a lot and I am always anxious something is going to happen.

He is an excellent flier and I was surprised the very first time he had long wings how he flew towards the window pane while I was watching in terror, and then stopped just in time.

Still, it is safer to have his wings clipped, so that's what I do now. The last time I went to the vet though they cut his nail too much and he cried so much. I was almost going to cry too outside, I was so worried. But he is OK now.

We don't really know exactly how he hurt himself... we think maybe he fell in his cage or maybe his nail (cause he had really long nails) got stuck and then he fell when he wanted to get it unstuck... but we're not sure but he's ok now, except he's not flying very much.  :)

Thanks Wolfi!!  :)  :)  8) I'm sure he would like you really a lot! :) Cause he was like that: sometimes he just didn't like some people and just couldn't get used to them. But then there were some people that he liked really a lot and he was always crying and jumping and was sooo happy when he saw them :) I'm sure he would like you really a lot too!  :)  8)  :)
