Now this is something that confuses me alltogether, as a pianist, and even more so as a composer! To me they seem to mix "some" Rachmaninoff with "some" Chopin to *somehow" get an effect. They do it somehow on purpose, as if they had found out what makes the most effect on a listener, just to sell more CD's or movies or games or whatever they want to sell.
Not my stuff, really. Why don't you go to the sources and listen and play Chopin and Rachmaninoff's original compositions?
Sorry I just don't get it...
these are re-arrangements of the origical score (mainly orchestra and voice + orchestra, amazing vocals actually and the singer had to learn the works in a 'made up language' that was central to the storyline...) so they're not exactly representative of the true original intent of the original compositions, these if anything are derivative on purpose and arranged in various styles for the new album vs the true OST and the literal piano transcriptions album which i also have. still i enjoy them for what they are on the surface pretty, this is a neat album in that the multiple composers/arrangers each play their own re-itterations of their pieces, you know, new fun with old music...
lots of variety though this jazzy number for example
but you're right it is by no means a master's artistic work, i just like to mix things up and give my ear something new to listen to this is more just lay and chill for a few minutes light listening, and if i get a score more something i just play through as a 'pallate' cleanser just for fun.
an actual review of the album, nothing to rave mad about, but still i personally am enjoying the first listen of each track...
