keep em coming! :)
Er - wait a minute - I know it might seem a bit churlish to challenge the specific premise of a thread so early on, but might it not be rather more equitable and informative if its remit were widened sufficiently to encompass one the one hand "the most stupid and idiotic threads..." and on the other "threads that attract the most stupid and idiotic contributions"? (i.e. those that may seem perfectly sensible but which end up rather different)..

What say you?

Best,

I agree completely. Post threads that are plainly stupid on their own, but also include good threads that have attracted the most stupid and idiotic replies.

edit: In fact the 'synaphai' thread is in the second category already since the idea of the thread was good but it was handled incorrectly by the contributors.

If there are pillars that keep this site from sinking into obscurity, one of them is certainly the word association thread.

Greetings.

Without silly threads, or, as Alistair Hinton mentioned, "threads that attract the most stupid contributions" this forum would not exist, or be just plain boring. Without argument this forum would not exist.

i totally agree. this forum needs a bit of comic relief every now and then.

btw, id like to add all of the "hardest piece" threads to the list. those just get annoying after a while, for the same responses by the same members will always be given.

Totally agreed, that's why I created this thread, so people can enjoy the stupid and moronic threads in one place. Nothing in this forum makes me pissed off. I like to read the idiotic threads.

That being said... The word association game is useless, stupid, idiotic, and crappy and a way for some people to increase their post count (like someone cares how many posts they have written. However, we are not here to argue the stupidity of the word association thread since it indeed is stupid and not even remotely funny :D So let's get back to the topic shall we :)

I don't know where the thread is....or bother to find out because then I'll have to attach it and I guarantee that I will do it incorrectly, but there is a thread by a member who wanted free Opus Clavicembalisticum sheet music to play for family or friends. The thread wasn't stupid, nor idiotic as some claim, but never the less funny. No offense Luda888  :)

 ::)

There's a rather striking difference between constructive argument and mindless idiocy- for example a thread on LL vs. Yundi Li is probably not going to be particularly worthwhile, whereas a debate on which is the best of the different fingerings and techniques to play, say, double thirds, might actually help someone.

That being said, the silly threads ARE fun sometimes- but I've noticed that the older silly threads from back when there were more serious and worthwhile posts are funnier than the ones now.

Just my opinion.
[lau] 10:01 pm: like in 10/4 i think those little slurs everywhere are pointless for the music, but I understand if it was for improving technique

That's because "back then" there was an ample amount of things to talk about.  Now, there are more platitude riddled threads simply because there is less to talk about, and most threads are either too specific, such as the correct fingering, or too broad, such as the "famous" word association thread.

Oh god, TIM HOFMAN!! that's unbelievably funny! I haven't been brave enough to actually watch the vids, but I found your descriptions hilarious. So this is what I was missing during my break from the forum. LMAO

Poor guy. He was looking for advice and encouragement whilst the forum slaughtered him. As if that in itself wasn't bad, the "world out there" is more prone to believing that "we" are perfidious folk and will stay away from us and reel in more towards Tim Hofman's music, which in itself isn't bad in accordance to music itself, but bad in that it prevaricates others who believe that his music is "classical" from the truth.

No it was him, because if you read his initial thread, he clearly stated the "I", in writing of his accomplishments. Later on he claims that he is just the site creator or something like that.

If you need reasurrance that threads have gone on more vapid, just look at the progression of posts in the non piano room. At the biggining they are alot more serious in my opinion and as time goes on, they become more pointless and even puerile to some degree. In my opinion, this forum would not exist for much longer. This is why Bernhard possibly left, because there is just simply nothing left to talk about and many new questions are related in some way to questions in the past, so just using the search engine is very helpfull.

Many threads are repeated over and over again, such as the ranking of certain pieces. There is always an equivocal opinion and I am sure that many rankings have been made, but the same threads pop up. If there were just a couple of threads encompasing the general grading of said pieces, that would be alot less repeated questions.

I have also noticed a clear deteoriation in overrall quality of threads, ie, I used to check the teching and student forum every day but since you can hardly find any interesting threads in there nowadays, I don't check it.

I loved the 'Fantasie impromptu' thread btw. That's a classic

I was trying to find the imfamous contrapunctas threads but they seem to have been deleted.  What's happened to that delightful fellow?

contrapunctus was a diehard bach and gould fan.  but, you have to admit - people like that (and like me) stick to their guns.  i mean - he didn't suddenly switch and say that he now liked something else and thought fugues were meaningless.

there's not that many 'baroquies' - and even though they seem geekish - they are quite helpful in terms of speaking about what they know about - even when on other issues they are quite 'tunnel visioned.'  some artists are that way and specialize, u know.  and, as prometheus pointed out - there are many geniuses that are completely insane in other areas.

maybe stupid and idiotic is defined by each forumer individually.  to me, stupid and idiotic doesn't even cover the TB thread of porcorina - because she obviously shows writing talent.  it might seem vapid conversation to some - but it was insightful for those who let their imaginations just run wild for a few minutes each night.  i mean - if ur like me (stay at home mom) u need some excitement once in awhile.

of course, some polls are fairly useless - but we do them anyway to waste time.  wasting time is actually what u do when you don't practice.

That thread was stupid. Just because she fooled some people doesn't mean she has writing talent. She was just a daft teenage girl looking for attention. I wonder why she looked for it here, though. Weird.

The thread in connection to the forum was stupid. However, would the thread be stupid if practically everyone believed her story?

Where's the thread where someone spammed the forum with music history text? I tried looking for it, but it disappeared. An error occurred.
