A Yamaha console in rosewood: I looked up and down the west coast before choosing this one. It isn't big, but it has a warm, civilized bass and a perfectly even and dulcet treble.
Very pleased (action is also fast-fast-fast!)

My dream piano would be a Bosendorfer, a Steinway or a Bechstein. Bluthner is a bit on the stiff side, otherwise it's a fine piano. Forget Fazioli - I don't like its action.

Yammie here, too.  I don't like the heavy action. :-/  I don't like the sound.  Touch is fine, though not ideal.  Not very attractively shaped either.   It's GH1 baby grand.  I don't like it.

I actually took lessons from the time I was 13 (I was a very late starter.) until I was almost 18. I was probably at the late intermediate/early advance level when I stopped playing. (There is a very long story why I stopped and an even longer story why I've waited so long to take up playing again.)

So here I am getting ready for my first lesson after many years. I was told to prepare something so right now I am working on a couple of Scarlatti sonatas and the Chopin F# Nocturne, Op.15, #2. And of course, scales, scales and more scales.

Young Chang baby grand, 5'7'' (I think). I'm very happy with it, it's served me well for five years. One of the keys recently has been getting stuck, but for the amount I practice and beat away on the keyboard, the piano has held up very, very well.

I have a Yamaha C2 (5'8'') new last year.  I am very content with this piano.  I read in "The Piano Book" that the G series wasn't as good, so we made sure to get a C.  Does anyone else here have a C2?  I would love to. one day, be able to afford a Bosendorfer Imperial Grand with the extra bass notes.

Well... there is this "Magnetic Balanced Action" system that lets you adjust the 'stiffness' of the action just by turning a knob. Put this on every piano and every one can get the 'stiffness' they like.

Standardization on action 'stiffness' is not full proof. Some pianos simply sound louder than others even if their actions are of equal 'stiffness.' It's not just loudness, different pianos also produce different tone colours to different touches. So the pianist will have to adjust anyway.

Darkwind, I know you posted this a while ago, but if you still want suggestions, I suggest Petrof uprights- they have a great renner action and the price is decent as well.  If I didn't have room for a grand, the first thing I would go for is a Petrof Upright.

A Yamaha U3 upright.  When I was small I had a Bosendorfer which had been my grandmother's before she died.  Aged about 4 I composed little tunes on it.  I hadn't learned musical notation at that age, so I scratched the ivory keys heavily with a needle so I could remember which notes were in my composition.  My mother wasn't pleased!  And I only worked out later that my system was no use anyway - I had marked which keys I needed, but not the order in which to play them!

Darkwind, I know you posted this a while ago, but if you still want suggestions, I suggest Petrof uprights- they have a great renner action and the price is decent as well.  If I didn't have room for a grand, the first thing I would go for is a Petrof Upright.

I don't have a piano at the moment but at home I played on a Karl Ehrlich. It's tops. It's old, really good quality (original felts in great condition, no keys are ever stuck, beautiful consistent tone) and it has character.
And the touch is great!  (Responsive, light bit not too light)
