Vacaaaaaations! Tomorrow will be my last day before vacations. *o*
I'll get up late, watch TV shows, practice piano, read some books talk with my online friend... it will be awesome!
But there's a calculus test between me and vacations. ugh

Your quintet?

Have you ever actually heard this piece? (which happens to be one of my favorite chamber pieces, and my favorite quintet)

It's really most kind of you to say so - indeed, I much appreciate your remark - but I think that Thal was referring here o the piano quintet on which I am currently working (my string quintet having been completed long ago!); I've no idea if Thal has heard any of my string quintet, but perhaps he will tell us in his own unique fashion...

Oh yes.

I never forget the first time i heard it. It was a summer afternoon and i was relaxing with a nice wine and a good cigar. The patio doors were open and a gentle fragrant breeze drifted through the room. Then as the first bars wafted out of the speakers....................

I'm sure that we are all agog to hear the next instalment - not so much about my string quintet or your reactions to it, of course, but about Thal "relaxing with a nice wine and a cigar"; this is so unlike the Thal that we have come to know that I am beginning to worry about whether my quintet was in any way responsible for this wholly uncharacteristic sounding change in your conduct.

I hope that purchasing this 3-CD set didn't break your credit card in half (although if you managed to purchase some decent wine and cigars afterwards, it would most fortunately seem that it didn't)...

Anyway - as you were...

So what (if anything) do you make of Sorabji's profound admiration for and love of Bach? How do you account for this in any terms, although specifically (in the present context) that of creating and alleviating alleged headaches)?

I would be more interested in what Bach would think of Sorabji than what Sorabji thought of Bach.

Unfortunately, this is not possible, as i expect they went to a different heaven.

I am feeling tired now, but it has been a most enjoyable weekend.

I have been working on my theory that all German Romantic composers restrained themselves. However, my theory began to fall apart with Brull and Kullak.

Your expectation does neither composer - or you - any credit. We can know something of what Sorabji thought of Bach because there is published evidence of this; there could not, of course, have been similar evidence in the opposite direction, however much your interest might have been inclined towards knowing about it. It is therefore this, rather than what you suggest here, that is the reason why it "is not possible". What, however, might you mean (if anything) by "a different heaven" in this context?

Well, I had a good night's sleep which is a good thing for me!  I have a busy day ahead of me...
Need to pack up for my trip to Montana for a stay there until this weekend....ah, I am looking forward to the big sky country!   I love those mountains everywhere!   Yes, I am having a vacation!  No students to teach !  I'm leaving tomorrow.... woo hoo!   I'm going to work on my art---some sketching to do and take photos too.  The scenery is just breath-taking.

best wishes,

Just let it go and move on.  That's what I have to do in order to survive with the circumstances coming my way.  It's how you look at what you do may seem wrong but it is a process that you are going through.  I have a thought to share with you,

Sometimes we must lose in order to gain.

I am so dog tired!  I sketched a portrait of someone since 3:30am....not much sleep either.
And the worst part of it, that I don't like how this portrait turned out!  So I need to make some changes to it....ugh....even art takes work and effort and time.  And I can hardly play piano this morning either.  My brain is mush right now....but I must keep GOing.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive.
