I was just listening to some Busoni too. It's based on an ethnographical collection of Native American songs/dances.

I asked, What are the greatest double concertos since Brahms' opus 102 (1887), and I got this.  I'm half way through it.  As with everything I listen to by Schittnke, I'm so impressed by the craftmanship and force of the music.

Who?

As for the Concerto, it's solid, though for me nothing will ever surpass Medtner - Op. 60 Piano Concerto no. 3 "Ballade."

There's one with a score, but I prefer watching the composer play it

Why? I find it quite interesting.

Perhaps there should be a thread dedicated to extended technique pieces.

Rzewski - The People United etc.

Didn't expect to like this after listening to his Ballade no. 4 (which I didn't enjoy at all), but I think that this might actually be one of my favorite T&V pieces, up there with Alkan Le Festin d'Ésope, Bach Goldberg, Beethoven Diabelli, Liszt Totentanz, Chaminade Op. 89, and Czerny Op. 170. I especially love variations 13 and 27 (at 14:13 and 32:37, respectively).

Antonio Soler.

Also, Gordon - Fabular Arcana, which is probably my favorite 21st Century piano concerto right now (no full video on youtube).

J.S. Bach The Art of Fugue BWV 1080, Helmut Walcha - 1956.  I grew up listening to this recording as a kid and will be listening to it on my death bed when the time comes if able.

I realized a while back that I haven't properly listened to many of Chopin's smaller-scale works (thanks, yqxpiano), so I'm doing that now.

I'm starting with his rondos, which I don't believe I've listened to at all.

I'm now regretting my decision to devote any time at all to Chopin.

Two things.

1. Catching up on Eurovision, because I completely forgot about it for a while lol.

Comparing Schnittke to Medtner?  - it's apples and ... broccoli.
Compare Medtner's concerti to Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Rubinstein, Moskowski and many others from 1870-1910.

Actually, he'd be honored;
"I repeat what I said to you back in Russia: you are, in my opinion, the greatest composer of our time."
- Rachmaninoff, in a letter to Medtner.

Rachmaninoff's Fourth Piano Concerto is also dedicated to Medtner.
