Bob - great choice with the Mingus. I personally love this version of that tune by Marcus Miller:

Yep, technique but.... I guess it's example of a bad piece since it's several pieces/styles stitched together, so not much unity.  Begins and ends with Chopsticks.

Listen to it once and never again.   I thought it would be better when I posted.

Right now I am listening to Xenakis

Lovely piece...although I wonder if there may indeed be something wrong with me...I am not sure it's supposed to make one feel warm and fuzzy Grin

I continue to enjoy finding obscure clavichord recordings. Makes me want to find an LP player.

I'd say there was something wrong with you, only I listened to thrash, death and black metal for years, which at times approaches this level of dissonant chaos, which would make me a hypocrite. I just tend to like my dissonant chaos played by guitars instead.

That makes me think of the following video, which I learned about through one of my favorite game development websites. I'm rather fond of the melody.

Bad apple is tight,  got real famous there form a while...and while the animation and 3d rendering is a bit dated now, the character designs for that were fast forward and an evolution gives us the odd quirky but strangle adorable AI Kizuna AI Chan

Aha. I know nothing about these videos; and don't find any of them appealing except for Bad Apple for some reason. I encountered it originally because somebody had written an NES rom that plays the song and streams the (very decimated) white-on-black silhouette version of the video. Quite an impressive technical trick, but I was more interested in the melody of the song which I enjoyed very much.

Aside from that, in terms of liking anything japanese, I like to watch quite a bit of anime with my wife, who is probably more of a weeb than I.
