In a manner of speaking, yes, thats what I said.
What I meant was that i've been playing piano for a little under 3 months with a teacher (messing around a little before that) and during that 3 months in addition to sight reading drills I have almost finished Fur Elise (everything at the beginning and almost the whole first interuption is done, and the rest should be done within another month)

I'm aware the Fantaisie could take awhile, but i'll wait :)

God bless

Hi, I'm a new member to the boards, and I just finished minute waltz and performed yeterday at a recital in 2 months.  I also performed fur elise and prelude 20 (Chopin).

I think you are not ready at all to play impromptu if it has taken you 3 months and haven't even finished fur elise.

Maybe try some of Chopins waltzes or some fast preludes to work on finger technique

Good grief, how about making this thread a sticky???? Either that, or how about just locking it?

If making it a sticky, change the title to:

"What not to post."

Stumbled across pianoforum by googling, and this was the first thing I came across.

All I can say is that attempting to learn works like Fantasie-Impromtu is pointless for most people, even those people who have been learning for many years. This music is not meant for people like breadboy -- at least, it isn't meant to be played by them. They have neither the deep knowledge, sensitivity, or humility to understand it, let alone play it.

Chopin (and Liszt, Beethoven and Schubert to name a few more) didn't write their great works in order of difficulty, or as a test of virility. They wrote them because they wanted to communicate an emotional truth or deep feeling, and the fact that they are difficult is because they have to be so. Piano playing is not a pissing contest. Being able to rattle out a bunch of notes in roughly the right order is not what Chopin had in mind when he wrote this music.

Having to ask the question "should I start it" or "how do I play 3 against 4" indicates nothing more than a level of ignorance that is entirely contemptible. It's like buying a Ferrari. If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it. Likewise, if you have to ask how to play it, you can't play it.

I don't want to come across as too harsh as this is my first post, but, I mean - honestly!

A final thought - breadboy's audience, albeit consisting of family and friends, would probably appreciate a really beautifully interpreted - in other words, an honest performance - of something like "Traumerei", or even the Aria from the Goldberg Variations. However, this will almost certainly never happen as he will almost invariably want to slam them against the wall with huge chunks of notes from the "difficult" range.

If there's anything that will make your audience dislike you, breadboy, it's wasting their time by playing them things you can't play. The only emotions they will feel if you confront them with a butchered F.I. are a) embarrassment for you b) pity for you c) anger at your arrogance and d) a dislike of all things Chopin. If this is what you wish to achieve, then can I repeat what many others have said here: go for it.

God help you.

OK.... Im sick of this. From now on, just to annoy you all, I will make it my duty to keep bouncing this thread if it goes under the 8th thread mark, until Nils decides to either lock it or sticky it.

lol, someone said to play a fast prelude before fantaisie impromptu, I have a book w/ the preludes, and I find most of the fast ones harder than fantaisie impromptu, especially number 16/19... And also the G# minor is extremely awkward and I find more difficult than FI, try G major which practices left hand dexterity and isn't too difficult, or Eb minor is also a good workout for both and uses alot of black notes, don't try the hard fast ones, but the intermediate ones to build up strength, you'd be wasting your time playing 16/19 after fur elise...

Why am I doing this? Some of you probably find this incredibly annoying, but I am doing it for the greater good, it is a statement: "Lock this stupid thread", or make it a sticky to remind people what not to post.

If I dont keep reminding you people to do something about it, it will sink into oblivion and come back in a few weeks to bite us all in the ass when we least expect it.

i finished the fantasie impromptu about a week ago, took me 45 days ( i played the piano for 3 years when i was a kid and 4 years from the age of 14 now i'm 18)

i don't think i could play this piece last year, it requires great coordination and it has some very difficult rhythm :( but now i play it decently and i'm polishing it , will perform it in july...
if i tried this piece last year probably the only thing i would earn is FRUSTRATION.

As you can see, people have been asking for moderators for a considerable amount of time.  It is  physically impossible for one person to moderate a forum this size at peak efficiency.
