don't prepare your piano, prepare yourself (to understand this saying, look up john cage)

ps. john cage thought various objects should be inserted in between the strings to make it sound better.  things like spoons and forks.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Everything is a luxury.

Read carefully for the ture meaning:
I have a certain phrase I think right before I perform.  After I think it, with the adrenalin rush of being on stage, I feel much freer and relaxed.  What's the phrase?  "Eff__ it."  At that point, I've done I can do and it's time to perform.  No point holding back or worrying about what the audience thinks or what didn't go right with the piece.  Eff it -- Just go out there and do it.

And and empty bag of experience.

Before you empty the bag of luck.

Carpe Diem  -  Seize the day

Having spent most of my life not not doing this I turned over a new leaf a few years ago and made a start on the piano.

An old guy I know once said he'd reached an age where he can say "I'm not going"
I love that. I'm trying to pluck up the courage to make it my motto.

this has absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 ... a teacher once freaked out because this text was on my agenda, but it has been for a long time before 9/11
anyway here it goes :)

In a fall from a burning tower
What would you do with just one more hour?
Live that hour out everyday
Like it was your last you'll live much better that way

and also

Be the ball.

But read carefully.  "The" and "a" can make a world of difference.

It's "Be THE ball," not,"Be A ball."

Learn from me.  Don't make the same mistakes I did.

Most importantly, don't try it on stairs.

Oh!, how many years I wasted being a plain, regular ball instead of being "the" ball.  How stupid I was...  For there is nothing like being "the" ball.  It's... I can't describe it.  It's exquisite.

don't look back or you'll trip.

do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

if you adjust the bench too much, you'll strip the knobs and be left holding the ball that bob's talking about.

My all-time favourite is still Calvin's (of Calvin and Hobbes cartoon) philosophy of life...

'Who cares!' You have to say it to bring out what it means and in a medium like this it is difficult to express it but what Calvin is saying is he doesn't give a care what life or anything for that matter is about or you might call it the 'couldn't care less attitude'. He's one jerk you'll grow to love.

lol i read this in one of those womens weeklies - "Chat" i think it was called, it's such a funny magazine (don't think it's meant to be!)- some of the real life stories are quite unbelievable. They have a "this weeks motto" written in by a reader.

if you're a mature celebrity, you're not responsible

ps torp, about the age thing.  age isn't a high price if you take care of yourself.  the only problem (i think) i have is that i can't remember words, names, and have to go through the alphabet.  this happens at least once a day.  sometimes i think about it and wonder why i can remember music better than some words and names.  my strategy when unable to remember something - is to pretend not to be bothered by it.  say, if someone walks by (unsquint eyes, stop staring at the wall, start doing something while finishing the task, just act ho hum).  works every time.

isn't a high price if you take care of yourself.

I agree that taking care of yourself can certainly be beneficial.  Age, however, does catch up eventually though.  I'm thinking of my Grandfather who had to give up Lacrosse at the young age of 75.  Doctor said it was just too much contact for him.  Then, in the prime of his life, at the age of 87 he fell and cracked his head while playing tennis.  This put an end to both his tennis and hockey playing.  Yup, doctor said he couldn't do either of those any more.  I think the lack of hockey hit him the hardest though.  So now, at 90, he's left with nothing but golf.  If the doctors take that from him, I'll give him six months...

Although it was meant to be humorous, I do think age is high price to pay for maturity.
