Wrong on several counts, though not, of course, the one that identifies Mr Powell as Mr Powell and not Mr Powell as not Mr Powell. No one has designed my stubble, only my dentist (whom I do not visit dfaily) polishes my teeth and, amusing though your W. C. Fields reference may seem, my cheeks reveal nothing of my liquid intake, since at the time of that photograph, I had consumed very little liquid of any kind - even water (of which I did consume a reasonable amount during that evening).

Thal, of course, cannot be seen in that photograph and therefore cannot be analysed and assessed as a consequence, BECAUSE HE FAILED TO ATTEND THE CONCERT (and never mind the question of whether or not he might have been invited to the social event following it, there were also numerous photographs of the concert itself at which, of course, he also failed to appear.

Never mind. The performances of the three pieces on the programme that evening - Chopin's Polonaise-Fantaisie and Beethoven's Op. 109 Sonata in the first half, which incredibly daunting beginning your 'umble servant had to try to follow in the second half with the world première of his Sequentia Claviensis - were all absolutely outstanding; no praise can be high enough for Mr Powell's extraordinary playing on that occasion. Sorry you missed it all, Thal, "old chap"...

Isn't there a pic of hinton with a beard floating around somewhere?  He looked basically like thal (without the overt obesity, of course).

I am not aware that I have ever been photographed "floating" anywhere - or indeed that I even have "floated" anywhere with or without the presence of a photographer; I may not possess Thal's - er - massiveness of personality (said he, exercising as much discretion as his composerly imagination will allow at this time of day), but I openly admit to being by no means light enough of weight to float of my own accord. I also do not look like Thal, with or without overt or covert obesity, so please be considerate and desist from insulting Thal in that way by making such suggestions. Thanks.

Originally, you presented your thoughts as a statement, namely "both of you are aging homosexuals" yet, now that you have decided to respond to a invitation to declare to whom you were referring in that statement, you rephrase it as though it has suddenly and inexplicably turned into a question.

Thal and I are indeed both "ageing", as indeed are you and as is everyone else here. I have never met Thal so cannot speak with authority for his sexual orientation or proclivities, although I have not the slightest evidence that he is indeed homosexual as you claim (or is it ask?). I can certainly confirm that I am not homosexual myself. Neither of these statements of mine are to be taken as any kind of opinion of value judgement about homosexuals or homosexuality; the purpose of my remarks here is quite simply to remind you that it is important that you check your facts before making a statement (or was it a question?) such as the one that you made here which gave rise to this exchange.

Apart from any other factor, other people's sexual orientation and proclivities are actually none of your business unless anyone specifically chooses to make them so, which neither Thal nor I have ever done in your favour; you would therefore be wise also to bear this fact in mind and choose your words more carefully in future in order to avoid the risk of inaccuracy, irrelevance and compromised credibility.

Why so? And how so? I pointed out that his claim that two of this forum's members were homosexual when I know that at least one of them is not; if doing that and recommending that he check his facts before making remarks about such an issue when not only does he not have those facts to hand but the matter is in any case none of his business may well amount to a censure on my part, but there's nothing vitriolic about it, nor is there anything judgemental about it, since he's welcome to hold such views if he likes, as long as he expects to be criticised for them if he presents them as facts without the benefit of supporting evidence.
