Took a break from it to focus on Musical Madness. I'll post it when it's finished, probably sometime this year.

And for the record, you're a very distant third place to transitional and me.

You can use the feedback form. Also, in reality, adding the code I put there is just a minor convenience for me, it doesn't really do much. If you want, you can just write a few of those categories in plain text.

Right now, it's just going to be slow since I'm simply adding them in manually by myself, in the future I could have some other people help add them.

Just sent a form with a handful of semi-standard repertoire pieces. :)

Good news, I managed to get a new system working.
Instead of painstakingly screenshotting and downloading images of sheet music I found this handy database of tons of sheet music that I can get musicxml file links to. With musicxml, I can also randomize measure numbers and such. Now, I can actually incorporate both manual images and rendering musicxml, so I can add manually maybe some obscure pieces that I/others want or for some reason arent on kernscores (where is Debussy????) and things will be a lot faster.

Note now the measure numbers are random the difficulty rating might be the overall piece difficulty, not the specific question, also I have no idea how to decide difficulties, so if you could use the feedback form to do so or put on here, both work.

You might want to use a different sheet music source, because this is a little bit unreadable:

I think it depends on how rare you want the pieces to be. If you're planning on sticking to standard and semi-standard repertoire (for example not much less common than e.g. Alkan Le Festin d'Ésope, Albeniz Lavapiés, or maybe certain Medtner Sonatas), then stuff like those examples would range from 8-10 and everything else could probably scale off of that. If you're planning on including basically anything by a major/semi-major composer up to the present day, then that stuff would probably be around a 5-6.

Plus obviously it depends on the measures. For example, this set of measures is pretty distinctively Alkan Op. 39 no. 12 (specifically the "barking" variation):

But the very next variation would only be guessed by people intimately familiar with the piece:

And this section from the final variation is barely identifiable at all:

And try to make a guess at what pieces these two screenshots are from (hint: both of them are just barely outside of semi-standard repertoire, though the first is pretty popular on Youtube):

I've recently switched to rendering a lot of the scores. It's more convenient for me.I'll look into it as most of the music seems to render fine.

Edit: It seems sometimes when there's multiple voices in one staff it does that.

After some debug it's all because it's Bach. Of course Bach would cause that to happen. Time to remove all Bach.

Real reason: that bach prelude was encoded into 5 voices in the database file, squished into one staff, and when I was trying to fix that and forced them to separate, it just caused it to split into 5 staves, which is still terrible. Working on a fix.

I hope C.P.E. Bach, J.C. Bach, W.F. Bach, J.C.F. Bach, J.L. Bach, and J.S. Bach weren't affected by the unfortunate removal of P.D.Q. Bach. /j

I added a list where you can see every possible score. Rn Chopin is over represented, but I've been so busy trying to fix Bach preludes (and wasting time) that I haven't been able to add much yet. I'll just keep Bach unreadable for now.

Also, a feature (besides more scores) i've been considering adding is multiplayer, where you could create a room and then share a link/code with others to join your room. Would you be interested in this? Of course the problem is you need friends who would be interested in playing.

I'm not particularly interested, though I'm sure others would be. Ultimately though it's your game so your choice on whether to include it.

Also congrats on 200 posts. :)

As for the thing, it seems... really limited. One Liszt piece (B2, mistakenly called "Ballad" no. 2), one Alkan piece (and a random chant rather than any of his more well-known pieces), one Ravel piece (a movement from the Sonatine, rather than a more notable piece), no Scriabin or Schubert Sonatas, neither Gershwin Rhapsody (both of them have been transcribed by Jack Gibbons), no early Schumann, and no Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Price, Medtner, Soler, Ligeti, Messiaen, Herz, Moscheles, Godowsky, Fauré, or Albéniz whatsoever.

I think I'd get crushed lmfao, I wouldn't be able to place a single Mozart piece or Chopin Prelude (except maybe nos. 16 and 24) lmfao.

Edit: as expected, though to be fair I didn't realize that it didn't work like practice at first.

And also one of the ones that I got was this lmfao:

I selected time trial, which means the strat is to spam random stuff when you don't know a question lol. It seems like you didn't realize this. In classic, you generally don't want to spam since it's a separate timer for each question.

Btw, right now I have it so everyone gets the same "playlist" in multiplayer but haven't made it give people the same measure numbers. I might update it to do that some time.

Right now the pool is quite small so you could potentially memorize key signatures and get a pretty decent accuracy. Chopin is also overrepresented but I'm trying to get other composers in.

Since kernscores (or whatever it is) is so limited, it might not be a bad idea to just go on IMSLP and grab a few selections from some of the many notable pieces that kernscores doesn't have lol. I've used it before for video thumbnails and it usually doesn't take more than about a minute per piece (even less if you know roughly the measure #s off the top of your head).

You can also look through YT score videos and just take screenshots from those. It's what I did for the two "mystery pieces" from last page.

Yes, the way the code is working right now does let me use images. Right now though, I'm trying to exhaust every useful piece from kernscores, and the most convenient composer to get scores from on there (besides Bach, but then the game turns into guess the Bach chorale) is Chopin.

Some things that are on there that I have found and I plan to add sometime soon:

Clementi op 36 no 1
I think Vivaldi's seasons too
One Scarlatti sonata  just to have a Scarlatti piece
One Haydn sonata for the same reason

Strangely they don't seem to have K. 141, which is (AFAIK) the most well-known Scarlatti Sonata and the only one in the upper end of standard repertoire.

Those aren't piano pieces though, unless there's a transcription that I'm not aware of?

Also, might be a good idea to exclude Theme and Varaitions-style pieces from the randomized measures pieces, since it's possible that it lands on a section from the theme and there's no way to differentiate the theme from the original piece.

Also avoid various pieces based on the same theme for the same reason (e.g. Liszt S. 140, S. 141, and S. 420).

Btw, here is the next best alternative to kernscores that does the same thing it does, excluding just screenshots:

https://github.com/OpenScore/Lieder/tree/main/scores

It only has 19th century scores but you might find something good there

Well, they have Chaminade, Lili, Boulanger, Schoenberg, and Joplin (and more, those are just the first four that I noticed), so they clearly aren't only 19th Century.

The description says it's like scores from 19th century or I guess composers living in that time. Idk but they are missing a lot of famous composers outside of that range so I'm assuming it's roughly 19th century.
