Hi, I just thought you guys might find this interesting.

I created a small new project, the concept is simple. You see a snippet of sheet music and you have to type in your answer for what it is. Right now there's only 6 questions you can get because I'm still testing it, but once it's ready I hope to have 1000+ and you can use the feedback form linked on the website to possibly send imslp links of things you would want added. I remembered this place existed after creating this

https://score-guessr.onrender.com

Also, can someone catch me up on what happened while I was gone? Why is there a Nazi on this thread? Who is moonlight88?

Edit: took a look at LPW, maybe this site isn't worth visiting again actually.

Seems to work pretty well, though you might want to add some more flexibility with answers (e.g. "Mozart Sonata no. 16" wasn't a correct answer for K. 545; already sent a form thingy).

"Friend" (or alt, still not entirely sure) of gasplamey's. They initially joined a long time ago (around reply #950), but came back in January. I'm ignoring them because there's not a reason to talk to them. I suggest you (and gasplamey) do the same.

Edit: took a look at LPW, maybe this site isn't worth visiting again actually.
I'd say that the site as a whole is (mostly) fine, though the original LPW has never really been worth existing on. And if moonlight gets grey rocked enough then eventually they'll leave and things will go back to normal here.

Yes, there is a json file with links for all images with metadata like composer, catalog, key, work type, aliases/nicknames, etc and the code has regex to try to first clean your answer of spaces, punctuation, words like "of" "in" "the," also normalize flats and sharps etc, and match your answer and either get incorrect correct or partially correct. If you get an answer that should be right I can always just add it manually to the aliases section of the question to fix it. I can always just add every possible right answer that comes up that way.

In the future I want to possibly create more modes or a multiplayer option where you can invite friends to join your room with a code/link, and also sort by era/composer if there becomes a large enough sample set.

Also, if you submit a score request, adding this would be much appreciated (but not required)

(You can leave "uid" and "file_path" empty)

Code: [Select]
  {
    "uid": "7G3B-BEET-SON-27-2",
    "file_path": "scores/beethoven_moonlight_mvt_1_1.jpg",
    "difficulty": 1.50,
    "era": "Classical",
    "composer": "Ludwig van Beethoven",
    "work_type": "Piano Sonata No. 14",
    "catalog": "Op. 27 No. 2",
    "key": "C Sharp Minor",
    "nickname": "Moonlight Sonata",
    "movement": { "numeral": "I", "index": 1, "tempo": "Adagio sostenuto" },
    "aliases": ["Moonlight", "Moonlight Sonata", "Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia", "Op 27 No 2", "Adagio Sostenuto"]
  }

I'm not knowledgeable in code, so would it be alright if I just had the categories in plain text?

You can use the feedback form. Also, in reality, adding the code I put there is just a minor convenience for me, it doesn't really do much. If you want, you can just write a few of those categories in plain text.

Right now, it's just going to be slow since I'm simply adding them in manually by myself, in the future I could have some other people help add them.

Good news, I managed to get a new system working.
Instead of painstakingly screenshotting and downloading images of sheet music I found this handy database of tons of sheet music that I can get musicxml file links to. With musicxml, I can also randomize measure numbers and such. Now, I can actually incorporate both manual images and rendering musicxml, so I can add manually maybe some obscure pieces that I/others want or for some reason arent on kernscores (where is Debussy????) and things will be a lot faster.

Note now the measure numbers are random the difficulty rating might be the overall piece difficulty, not the specific question, also I have no idea how to decide difficulties, so if you could use the feedback form to do so or put on here, both work.

You might want to use a different sheet music source, because this is a little bit unreadable:

I think it depends on how rare you want the pieces to be. If you're planning on sticking to standard and semi-standard repertoire (for example not much less common than e.g. Alkan Le Festin d'Ésope, Albeniz Lavapiés, or maybe certain Medtner Sonatas), then stuff like those examples would range from 8-10 and everything else could probably scale off of that. If you're planning on including basically anything by a major/semi-major composer up to the present day, then that stuff would probably be around a 5-6.

Plus obviously it depends on the measures. For example, this set of measures is pretty distinctively Alkan Op. 39 no. 12 (specifically the "barking" variation):

But the very next variation would only be guessed by people intimately familiar with the piece:

And this section from the final variation is barely identifiable at all:

And try to make a guess at what pieces these two screenshots are from (hint: both of them are just barely outside of semi-standard repertoire, though the first is pretty popular on Youtube):

I've recently switched to rendering a lot of the scores. It's more convenient for me.I'll look into it as most of the music seems to render fine.

Edit: It seems sometimes when there's multiple voices in one staff it does that.

After some debug it's all because it's Bach. Of course Bach would cause that to happen. Time to remove all Bach.

Real reason: that bach prelude was encoded into 5 voices in the database file, squished into one staff, and when I was trying to fix that and forced them to separate, it just caused it to split into 5 staves, which is still terrible. Working on a fix.

I hope C.P.E. Bach, J.C. Bach, W.F. Bach, J.C.F. Bach, J.L. Bach, and J.S. Bach weren't affected by the unfortunate removal of P.D.Q. Bach. /j

I added a list where you can see every possible score. Rn Chopin is over represented, but I've been so busy trying to fix Bach preludes (and wasting time) that I haven't been able to add much yet. I'll just keep Bach unreadable for now.

Also, a feature (besides more scores) i've been considering adding is multiplayer, where you could create a room and then share a link/code with others to join your room. Would you be interested in this? Of course the problem is you need friends who would be interested in playing.

I'm not particularly interested, though I'm sure others would be. Ultimately though it's your game so your choice on whether to include it.

Edit: took a look at LPW, maybe this site isn't worth visiting again actually.
Yesx stay gones oI can wani.
(or alt, still not entirely sure) of gasplamey's.
I'ms offended.
I hope C.P.E. Bach, J.C. Bach, W.F. Bach, J.C.F. Bach, J.L. Bach, and J.S. Bach weren't affected by the unfortunate removal of P.D.Q. Bach. /j

I have copied Siberian Husky's "Bunny" into my signature to aid his quest for world domination. Now you must do the same.
Now why can't I make this Courier New font...

I'm ignoring them because there's not a reason to talk to them. I suggest you (and gasplamey) do the same.

I assume you mean "win" rather than a mythical Japanese sea dragon, but we all know that that never happens here. A (non-toxic) conversation is more fun anyways. :)

I take it that you haven't heard of "hiding your power level." Basically nazis (and sometimes extreme leftists but not as often) will often pretend to be less radical than they actually are around "normies" to try to normalize their extreme views.

Though if moonlight really is a furry, then considering how many furries are LGBTQIA+ I have faith in the furries that they'll be able to set them straight.

Or perhaps set them gay? lol

I'd say that the site as a whole is (mostly) fine, though the original LPW has never really been worth existing on. And if moonlight gets grey rocked enough then eventually they'll leave and things will go back to normal here.
get thicker skin kek
Also, a feature (besides more scores) i've been considering adding is multiplayer, where you could create a room and then share a link/code with others to join your room. Would you be interested in this? Of course the problem is you need friends who would be interested in playing.
please do i have plenty of friends i could own at this kek
Which is why I'm not particularly surprised that moonlight88 is a nazi.
how am i a nazi when i'm literally a feminist tho
considering how many furries are LGBTQIA+
this is part of what i mean when i say that about 1-5% of us are gross its them and the zoophiles
