Also congrats on 200 posts. :)

As for the thing, it seems... really limited. One Liszt piece (B2, mistakenly called "Ballad" no. 2), one Alkan piece (and a random chant rather than any of his more well-known pieces), one Ravel piece (a movement from the Sonatine, rather than a more notable piece), no Scriabin or Schubert Sonatas, neither Gershwin Rhapsody (both of them have been transcribed by Jack Gibbons), no early Schumann, and no Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Price, Medtner, Soler, Ligeti, Messiaen, Herz, Moscheles, Godowsky, Fauré, or Albéniz whatsoever.

I think I'd get crushed lmfao, I wouldn't be able to place a single Mozart piece or Chopin Prelude (except maybe nos. 16 and 24) lmfao.

Edit: as expected, though to be fair I didn't realize that it didn't work like practice at first.

And also one of the ones that I got was this lmfao:

gg!

I selected time trial, which means the strat is to spam random stuff when you don't know a question lol. It seems like you didn't realize this. In classic, you generally don't want to spam since it's a separate timer for each question.

Btw, right now I have it so everyone gets the same "playlist" in multiplayer but haven't made it give people the same measure numbers. I might update it to do that some time.

Right now the pool is quite small so you could potentially memorize key signatures and get a pretty decent accuracy. Chopin is also overrepresented but I'm trying to get other composers in.

Since kernscores (or whatever it is) is so limited, it might not be a bad idea to just go on IMSLP and grab a few selections from some of the many notable pieces that kernscores doesn't have lol. I've used it before for video thumbnails and it usually doesn't take more than about a minute per piece (even less if you know roughly the measure #s off the top of your head).

You can also look through YT score videos and just take screenshots from those. It's what I did for the two "mystery pieces" from last page.

I've never been good at memorizing key signatures lol, it's why I refer to everything by Opus #.

Yes, the way the code is working right now does let me use images. Right now though, I'm trying to exhaust every useful piece from kernscores, and the most convenient composer to get scores from on there (besides Bach, but then the game turns into guess the Bach chorale) is Chopin.

Some things that are on there that I have found and I plan to add sometime soon:

Clementi op 36 no 1
I think Vivaldi's seasons too
One Scarlatti sonata  just to have a Scarlatti piece
One Haydn sonata for the same reason

Strangely they don't seem to have K. 141, which is (AFAIK) the most well-known Scarlatti Sonata and the only one in the upper end of standard repertoire.

Those aren't piano pieces though, unless there's a transcription that I'm not aware of?

Also, might be a good idea to exclude Theme and Varaitions-style pieces from the randomized measures pieces, since it's possible that it lands on a section from the theme and there's no way to differentiate the theme from the original piece.

Also avoid various pieces based on the same theme for the same reason (e.g. Liszt S. 140, S. 141, and S. 420).

Btw, here is the next best alternative to kernscores that does the same thing it does, excluding just screenshots:

It only has 19th century scores but you might find something good there

Well, they have Chaminade, Lili, Boulanger, Schoenberg, and Joplin (and more, those are just the first four that I noticed), so they clearly aren't only 19th Century.

The description says it's like scores from 19th century or I guess composers living in that time. Idk but they are missing a lot of famous composers outside of that range so I'm assuming it's roughly 19th century.

And no, I will not be listening to more of him. I'll take basically any other moderatley-well-known Romantic-era (or later) French composer over him lol.

I don't even think I've listened to most of the Chopin Waltzes XD.

Also, the scores take a minute to update, so I thought I'd gotten Chopin Op. 25 no. 1 twice in a row (in reality I embarrassingly forgot my favorite ChopEt the first time and the second time the next piece hadn't even loaded yet lmfao).

I guess I'll just be perpetually bad at this game then, because I simply don't find Chopin's character pieces as good as e.g. Chaminade's and Alkan's.

I mean, it's your game so you can design it however you want. I think the only way that I'd be good at it is if the entire thing was Alkan, Liszt, Chaminade, and Medtner, since those are the four composers that I listen to the most.

If it was like that, the game would be quite skewed. I think everyone can agree with that.

Also, the strike through is because in reality I do not listen to Chopin mazurkas. I do love certain nocturnes, waltzes and ballades though.

Nocturnes: 27 2 (I'm performing this sometime this year  :o) 48 1
Waltzes: op 18 (Tom and Jerry...)
Ballades: idk all of them I guess. Only if I'm in the mood tho.

Undoubtedly, lol. I think the best way to handle the game is to stick to standard repertoire, which includes only a single piece by Alkan, arguably 1-2 pieces by Medtner, none by Chaminade, and a tiny fraction of Liszt's gigantic oeuvre.

Also, the strike through is because in reality I do not listen to Chopin mazurkas. I do love certain nocturnes, waltzes and ballades though.
LMFAO, the Mazurkas are the main Chopin character pieces that I listen to (though I do also enjoy some of the Nocturnes, specifically 27/2 and both of the Op. 48 and 62 Nocturnes). I listen to almost none of the Waltzes, and only rarely either of the first two Ballades. (Though I do love the third and fourth, but who doesn't?)

Also hot take: Chopin wasn't the best Nocturne composer. That goes to Fauré, followed by Alkan and Medtner. I also love Chasselon's and Gibbons' (both linked below).

Maybe I should make the game into the reverse, where you create sheet music based on the piece name and the difficulties are based on how complex the piece is.

Did I say 27/1?? I meant 27/2.

This has made me realize that I've never even listened to Chopin Op. 27 no. 1 LMFAO. I will never be good at this game XP.

Well Debussy said Chopin was the best composer and Debussy is never wrong.

Rachmaninoff said that Medtner was the best composer and there are some on this forum who would say that Rachmaninoff is never wrong...

Chopin also famously envied Liszt's playing, and Liszt remarked at one point that Alkan was the best pianist.

So:
Best composer of all time: Medtner
Best pianist of all time: Alkan.

;)

Edit: yqx, don't tell me your doing the thing were you refuse to post because you'd lose a new page again...

Edit2: just get it over with lol, I can see that you're still active ;).

Besides, if you only post once, then you'll still have a chance.
