Saw something about this recently.  Lincoln's personal guard, one of four hand-picked guards, was incompetent. 

That and if Lincoln's son had agreed to attend the play, his son would have been sitting behind Lincoln, so even if the guard wasn't there, Booth would have had another person in the way.

i'm kinda excited about it, but I'm scared that the neccessary element of awesomeness may not survive to the remake, those rad sparks  and flames from they hit and get hit. that makes all the difference. if the movie doesn't have this, it'a an epic failure on the part of the writers. key detail!
