Career day pictures from Friday. It was five of us that played about an hour and 45 minutes at the luncheon for the guest speakers and teachers.

I couldnt believe i had to go 1st :o, i played Chopin,Bach,Schumann and my own compostion.Nervous I was :-X
Bad side pic

My friend Rubie went second, she's very good.she played Bach inventions.Along with Debussy and Pastel.

My bud Ken on right, played jazz pieces, pathetique sonata 1st mvt and he improvised some cool stuff. The other guy[Calvin] on the left drifting off into space played 3 Chopin preludes:1,4,and 15

My friend william played Bach:solfeggieto,2 Chopin preludes,To Zanarkand(full version),And John Legend:Ordinary Peolple, while i was goofing around. ;D

Then my teacher Mr.Clary and I,played this cool Ave Maria version that he arranged  for duet.It sounded pretty cool, i wish i had the recording of it to post in the Audition room.

i've played for luncheons and dinners - it's like you're playing but your not.  you try not to give them a real sfz because you don't want anyone to choke suddenly.  but, it's nice because if you make a little mistake, noones listening that hard.  in fact, they might not clap after every piece.  and, you might get to the end, and transfer to another person - and the wrong person get the applause.  that's ok.  it's good practice.  bet they finally clapped for the teacher.   ;D

instromp, you look like you're a  good improviser and that people will listen to you no matter what -even when appearing to talk.  i think you have that 'jazz look' and will go far.  you look relaxed and easy going.  when ur ok with the setting - then you can tweak ears as the evening goes on and they start noticing, right?!  (unfortunately for me, i can't play jazz - but i bought a book and am experimenting with some chord combinations to add to the end of mussorgsky's pics at an exhibition in case anyone falls asleep).

lostinidlewonder, is that you needing the haircut (looks fine to me) - or are you referring to someone else on the board?  i was just wondering about this for the last week or two.

Thanks pianistimo, but as for improvising i wud leave that to my friend Ken as in the picture.THe guests and teachers wasnt really paying attention which gave me a sigh of relief if i made a mistake or something which i did but no one knew but myself and my teacher ;D :-X..Jazz look? Lol i only know one jazz piece and it's called Misty i think. And when i had to play this Schumann piece Knecht Ruprecht I think i got everyones attention, which i wasnt going for and i went into my own world so i didnt kno they were paying attention till i got up and they applauded, i think i turned red :-[ :D ::)..and yes my teacher finally got his well deserved recognition, lol  ;) :D

if you're not black, you can't call another person negro.  guess that times are changing and if iran can have a president say he's going to blast the usa and get away with it - then anything goes.  balooiee.  i say keep peace, love, and tolerance going and not hatred and strife.  there's too much of it everywhere!

stevie986, how did you know you would get away with it?  is it sort of like my teenage daughter saying things to get a rise out of me.  i just figure whatever she's going to say next, i shouldn't overreact.  just sort of expect that she'll say something oddball once in awhile.  my sons friends insult each other for fun.  is this expected nowdays?  are you friendlier if you say something really rude to someone else?  does it break the ice?

I'm fairly sure "Negro" is not offensive, even if uttered by a non-black person. But we don't need another debate about this. "Negro" is an old-fashioned, affected word but historically it's always been the polite, politically correct term (in the ages before political correctness) for what today would be a called "African-American persons." I was using it in a chummy sort of way, as in "The League of Extraordinary Negroes," which most of my Negro friends belong to.

I don't understand what your reference to Iran has to do with anything.

No offense taken at all, so you can be at ease Pianistimo ;)..Negro is not a bad word or either is black. I wouldnt get offended by someone for saying that. But it is different than being called a "nigg**" which is highly unacceptable and very offensive. We can end the discussion on it for it is irrlevent to the thread.

We must remember that music comes in all colors and not white and black as om paper ;)

Well Stevie986 u can put down in ur journal that u made a black piano bud,lol ;)

i think the word itself has a far smaller impact than the context its used in. i could sense straight away that stevie8989bla's comment was in a friendly manner and meant no offense.

no offence meant, but i think that some black people like to take advantage of meaningless situations to call someone a racist. from this i only mean a small minority. i just had this experience with a friend who almost got beaten up for saying a harmless comment.

Yeah I agree gruff, there are some people who will take advantage of anything remotely concerning colour and over-exaggerate it as a racist remark. That situation is similar here in England with rape, as some women use it as an advantage of men to either get some money or enact revenge of some sort (or could be anything really). This is a broad generalisation, but unfortunately cannot be proved as today's British justice system on rape crimes is really poor, and either swings onto the extreme side of males, or the extreme side of females (i.e. believing one over the other, not really finding a middle ground if you know what I mean).

My point is: I think some women like to cry 'rape' just because they can, and in most cases will succeed. This is quite similar to a person of different race than another using a remark that might only slightly concern race (i.e. mentioning the colour of their skin, regardless of the context) to turn it against them, and probably giving themselves an ego boost.

Don't really know the point I was making (if I was making one), but yeah. 7

the thing about women in Britain is that if you are getting lucky with a girl and you move a further step, she cries rape, so then you step back or go away and she starts begging for it again. the rape laws in Britain are ridiculous. ok that sounds like i am some sort of rapist, but seriously check out the stupidity of British rape laws and you will agree.

also, a modification of what i said before in the other post, i actually dont just mean that some black people try and claim racial harassment, its often common and trendy for british or white people to stand up for other ethnicities and entice some sort of racial tension because of something unmeaning that another bloke may have said. political correctness is also getting way out of hand in this country. i believe 100% in equality between races, but when it gets to the extent where muslim clerics like Abu Hamza can just intice hatred on our streets against "the westerners", inticing violence and promoting terrorism and death, it is just plain ridiculous. he has finally been locked up after what... 15 years of this c rap? they was some politically correct law that meant he could not be deported. in America they dont take any s hit do they? you step out of line in America and your out. thats sensible. after 9/11, drastic measures were taken. and what happens in Britain after 7/7? the extreme muslim protesters in London promoting death and terrorism get a police escort? and then practically get let off everything. absolutely disgusting.

sorry, i had to let it out.

Well, the definition of rape (per s.1 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003) is restricted to intentional non-consensual penile penetration of the anus/mouth/vagina of the victim, which seems restrictive enough in itself to me...

s.3 of the 2003 Act may lead to more confusion in this area (with the net being drawn potentially, according to some, far too wide), but that is not to be confused with rape, being a very specific offence.

how common is it for a guy to be raped?

i used to often fantasize about being raped by a random hot chick, but then, that may not be rape 8)

and again...i dont just wonder how common it is, but how its really possible, i mean excluding a guy anally raping a guy, how does a woman rape a man?!
