If you think there's 20 years between those photos, I think you must be judging age based on looking at photoshopped pictures of celebs "She's 40 next year, but she's the skin of a selective guassian blur!"

what does that mean?

i've figured out the secret past fourty for soft plump skin.  this may sound hilarious, but 'gold bond ultimate healing' lotion is better than replenishing $60. bottles of skin lotion from estee lauder.  finally, i got tired of that stuff.  it's probably the same thing - just repackaged in little teaspoons.

first, i started out using gold bond for my hands (as a pianist).  i thought, wow. this stuff really makes my skin soft.  so - then i started putting it everywhere.  face, elbows, knees.  it's GREAt in the winter.  i used to get a sort of dry nose.  no more.  i should do advertising for gold bond.  it's better than spending $100. every two months for estee lauder.

what does that mean?

Any bit in particular or is the first time you've thought to ask :D

For example https://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/bikini/index.html

Although, if you find a few sites for companies that do digital image processing or graphic artists etc that have done celeb photos for their clients they sometimes have before / after shots of Britney or whoever.

[Although, as you'd expect, their clients are none too happy and I note quite a lot of those before / after are disappearing]

Some of it is just removing telegraph poles or other people in the shot, fixing the colours, making the sky bluer etc. Some of it is removing stuff that harsh false lighting exaggerates. But most of it is removing / adding, well stuff that swimming in gallons of gold bond isn't going to help much with.

It's ironic that 30000 extra rendering machines* were needed to add the pores to the characters in Disney's animated adventure 'Our characters have got pores now!"....which is about the same amount of computing time is used to remove them from every celeb female on the planet.

that is too funny.  ok.  now i understand gaussian blur a bit better.

swimming in gallons of gold bond?  i don't swim in gallons.  i bicycle a lot - so i get a lot of sun sometimes.  it makes my skin feel softer and nicer, i think.  and costs a lot less.

She needs a copy of something like 'drawing on the right side of the brain' [ignore the blather about brain hemispheres in it]

It does give a good approach to avoiding drawing the symbols for things [like your eye for e.g] rather than what she sees.

Yeah, that would probably be a good reference for her inorder to scetch/draw people and objects.

so which one are you?  are we supposed to guess?  you never mentioned a beard.   and, this is a pianola 'marathon?'  between you (whichever one you are) and that pic of thal holding a butcher knife - i'm just wondering why i bother with the pic thread (unless of course, you happen to be the guy on the right?  he looks more like what i pictured in my head.  a sort of kickback to the early 20th century - actually the other guy would fit that, too - having a sort of eastern european look).

now, thal in the bunny suit, and arm wrestling.  wow.  actually if the previous pic was without the machete - it would be great.  was that a tuning fork in the other hand?  was this an early indication of your musical prowess.

Well, welcome back, Mrs Keystone! I was beginning to wonder where you were today.

I'm the ugly brute on the left - Denis will be greatly flattered! He is 68 now, and still swims a mile and a half, three times a week. It's an old pic, from 1985, and we presented 72 non-stop hours of pianolas in and around the Royal Festival Hall. He's a wonderful friend.

I come to the US a fair bit, and since 9/11 I've worried about the beard. But I remember being at Newark Airport in late September 2001, and people could not have been nicer. I wasn't singled out for security, but I put that down to being significantly over 30 (well, late 50s, actually). Walking down the street in L.A. the year after, I did hear someone murmur "Bin Laden", but when I turned round, we all laughed, and my British accent guaranteed a happy conversation.

I got sunstroke on holiday in Italy in 1972, and I couldn't sleep for three nights, let alone shave, so I just grew a beard, and it stayed. No religious or moral significance, just happenstance. Mind you, I do get remembered when I do concerts, and it breaks the ice in a lot of situations, which I like.

Can you make out the printing on Thal's ashtray? I think it's an advertisement for a type of lager. I wonder which!

forget the ashtray.  what's he got stuck in his right ear?

that's a mighty long beard.  you say it was grown due to heatstroke?  and, do you reguarly twist it?  it looks pointed.  do you use it for anything else?  aka brahms - stroking and thinking at the same time.

tds, you need a girlfriend.  are you looking to date italian piano teachers?  i'm glad you like scarlatti, too.  seems that people poopoo it on the basis that it is repetitive and 'twinkly.'  but, to hear scarlatti as pogorelich and now maria tipo (i trust she's good since she's italian) is an experience that one does not forget - at least i know that myself about pogorelich.

tds, is the problem pretty universal.  good pianists avoid serious relationships?  now why is it that more conductors get married.  is there any difference.  can they do two things at once better?

pianolist, i think you look like galileo now.  and, the fact that you are married means that you must not be as scary as one might imagine with a longer than normal beard.

my five year old has another 20 years to go.  by then, you'd be 65.

i'm not trying to make the situation sound impossible.  actually ,frankly, i'm thinking that women throw themselves right and left at you (from the sounds of that concert that you recently had) and you just tell them you don't have time for dating.  you probably have pockets full of business cards.

what will it take for YOU to be smitten.  (spam warning)  ok.  tds.  you've got everything.  charm, good looks, brains.  what is it that you are holding out for?  seems to me that her being musical is probably 1/2 the problem - but the other 1/2 is musical, can understand and deal with your travelling, can help you prepare for concerts without getting jealous (that would be a hard one if the other person is also a performing artist), and basically be a helper to your situation and not competition.

so - as i see it - despite your pleas of spam stopping - i advise you to find a woman at the local church that you had the jazz competition/jury duty for.  someone that can sing a jazz number and make you go crazy from the wild turns and phrasing - and someone who can slow you down when you get hyper.  someone who might not understand the in's and out's of what you are playing - but gives you soul food before and after.

and, i suppose can handle it when you get attention after concerts.  has to be a strong woman.  maybe someone who has a side job - so she won't get bored and put all her problems onto you.  someone who won't follow you around every minute - but looks for you around every corner.

i'm not psychic.  it's just a common theme, i'm realizing.  the attractive piano playing men are busy.  the attractive piano playing women are busy.  you'd have to literally go to their house, ruin their piano (pour acid over it or chain saw it in half) and then ask - can we go out sometime?  of course, then - the likely answer would be the same.  'i've got to get another piano.  look what you've done!  i never want to see your face again.'
