I've not yet come to a real appreciation of Louis Andriessen's music, though I've heard quite a bit of it. I still listen to it with fascination, though I'm not sure if it's a fascination for the music itself or for its fanatics. I openly explore it, and there is always some interesting sound or silence to take away, but...oh, I wonder if I have to be Dutch or at least have a better sense of the "Dutch sense." Doesn't that sound superficial? And I don't even know what I mean.

Ah, well...his father wrote some truly beautiful music which on its surface is immediately accessible to me, but looking deeper, it filled with buried treasures hidden from immediate accessibility...treasures that keep the craving for more listens (come to think of it, Louis's music, though I don't get all of it, does indeed produce a similar craving.)
