When watching these old shows with Liberace, and compare it to the gestures of musicians of today, it's a very surprising experience for me: what a modest person he was!
Yes indeed--I thought about Liberace's besequined outfits a while back as I watched that PBS multi-piano concert when a gaggle of today's greats played Stars & Stripes on something like 12 pianos--all were in tuxedos except LangLang in his bright silks. Showmanship ain't quite dead yet.
