Lucas Debargue - A Matter of Life or Death
Pianist Lucas Debargue recently recorded the complete piano works of Gabriel Fauré on the Opus 102, a very special grand piano by Stephen Paulello. Eric Schoones from the German/Dutch magazine PIANIST had a conversation with him. Read more >>

I'm  eating Marie Biscuits. I'm not sure what you call em overseas. But they're yum and good for my ulcer. So i eat them quite often. I had sushi for lunch. Was nice. I managed to eat two of 8 pieces with chopsticks. I was in a hurry so i ate the rest with my fingers.

Ok. I checked and it seems marie biscuits are internationally a hit.

We pronounce it "mar" as in marmelade.

Afrikaans influence I imagine.

Thats is a very impressively written biscuit column. the writer has done a good job. And very informative. lol.

I never realised that people took such an interest in biscuits. I'm intrigued.

Always thought the rave was about cheese and wine.

Never really considered the vast variety of biscuits that are available on the world market.

Quite magical really.

Why? What's wrong with them? Or do you just dislike them or are allergic to them?

Some fresh grilled Cornish sardines with a nicely dressed salad of watercress, rucola, red oak leaf, Swiss chard, little gem lettuce and baby vine tomatoes (all organic) with a few slivers of organic avocado and some organic Jersey Royal new potatoes done in a beurre Charentais with chives - and a glass or two of Clos Floridène (Pessac-Léognan) 2000...

Well, to be honest, I'm not actually eating that right now, as I'm writing about it instead, but I'll be enjoying that in about an hour's time...

Mmmm . . . I have to be honest, I'm quite jealous, Ali. . . . Except for the Cornish sardines (w/e  ::)) sounds quite good. You must be some cook.

Gotta love the organic! We grow all of our own veggies organically, and buy everything else from Whole Foods.

Is there a Whole Foods in Europe? A potentially retarded question, but will ask anyways.

There are plenty of sources for organically grown fruit and vegetables and organically reared meat in UK and other European countries; even most supermarkets stock at least a certain amount of this.

Another point for the UK. . . .

We are the only organic beef ranch I think for miles, sadly. SOME supermarkets are providing organic foodstuffs, but not many and the selection is not that good (Luckily, they built a new Whole Foods where I live, so it's no longer an hour and a half trek to find adequate sustenance  ;D. Thirty-five minutes will suffice).

Don't believe you, Thal! And don't need to, either! You don't have to be some kind of open-toed-sandalled alternative eco-friendly moralist to appreciate the virtues of organically produced food - a totally sybaritic viewpoint can address it equally well. In other words, it's not all about planet-saving vegans and brown rice - far from it, indeed. So what about a really good well-hung decently butchered organic rare-breed sirloin steak and a glass or two of fine wine? and if you want to have some milk (preferably at some ither time of day!), then what's so wrong with unpasteurised full cream organic Guernsey / Jersey / Ayrshire if you can source it? And why not try some unpasteurised organic Devon Oke cheese from your "Country" with that capital "C"? Great stuff!

So what about a really good well-hung decently butchered organic rare-breed sirloin steak and a glass or two of fine wine?

I'm sorry, but I noticed that this post has apparently been dismissed. Has no one experienced the complete and utter bliss that is a nice, beautiful, naturally grown/prepared steak? I am no carnivore, and it little meat, but even I make exceptions. . . (The wine, I'm sure, will come w/ time - I have not established a taste for drink yet - can't stand the stuff).

Anyways, Ali, I wish I could be eating that atm - "I went to the market and all I got was this spinach/strawberry salad. . . . "

On a further, more bizarre note: A rare breed, those "open-toed-sandalled alternative eco-friendly moralist" are. I bet they'd make a nice organic steak (provided they were "decently butchered"  :P). . . .

I'm eating a jalepeno tempura "popper" that a Japanese lady I know makes. It's a jalepeno stuffed w/ shrimp and cream cheese wrapped in seaweed and fried in tempura batter. Oh, and some avacado/cucumber sushi.

All hail the Japanese  ;D
