yeah. me, too. animals that are 'dangerous' can also be really amazing. it's just that you want to keep a certain distance. appreciated what you said, mayla, because you have a lot of bravery to 'go back and look.'
i've had similar experiences blueberry picking (but i didn't go back and look). we (two girls that i was babysitting and myself) were happily picking berries at a park (with other people in proximity - but not a lot of people) and i smell this really disgusting smell. then, it hit me, it could be a bear! so, i tell the girls, ok girls (stand up and start backing up). they thought i was a little strange, but they did what i said. i knew if i screamed 'bear' - the bear might attack. so we walked backwards faster than slowand then turned around and ran.
one time i had a very bad feeling that a mountain lion was at a picnic location in northern california. my young son (about 3) and i had gotten out of the car at a semi-deserted picnic area and i was about to set the lunch out. i just had a wierd feeling. like something was lurking around. hurridly i got back in the car with my son and probably left the lunch on the table. bears and other wild animals are probably after your lunch (especially if it is mcdonalds).
also, another time, i took my son to summer camp and rented a motorhome to get there. (sequoia national forest) the counselor advised us to throw out burger wrappers and remains before camping for the night. well, in the motorhome, i forgot that we had eaten earlier that day at wendy's. so what do we get around 11 pm. this up and down motion at the back of the motorhome. i thought one of the counselors was trying to scare us, so we dutifully screamed and sort of laughed. then, i realized in was getting violent. i was about to drive away with the hookups still attached, but decided to pray with the kids instead. thankfully, the bear did go away.
that was the same trip that i experienced having breaks go out going downhill. i was whizzing around corners on the way back from this summer camp with my son and a cousin of the family and my second daughter about age 2. then i remembered to put the thing in second gear and then first gear. it worked. (we had rented the motorhome) always check the brakes before you go on vacation!!!!!
