Very interesting choice of Chopin, 8O!
And I'm also happy that more people are listening to Paul Barton (but then, you may well have been listening to him longer than I).

Hi chopinlover,

thank you for the answer! :) I had watched some of Paul Barton's tutorial-vids some time ago, and subjectively I would say they seemed to be reasonable and useful, imagining people who have problems with certain pieces.

There are many tutorials, I think, on the Web, which might be no good. But Paul Barton, I think, is one of the not so frequent good ones. But even here, opinions may differ.

Cordially, 8_octaves!

The artist listens for that which is well done,
the person who knows nothing listens for the faults." (T. Carreño, quoting her 2nd teacher, Gottschalk.)

I very much like his tutorial videos, as they go over various technical aspects of pieces often times, suggest alternate fingerings and such :)

lol more enjoying the playing and admiring the pianism vs the works themselves. I do enjoy Chopin here and there occasionally  ;D

It is def better than Schumann
I don't hate Fred per say it's just played out in my ears.  I don't mind a few works here and there and I actually like bits and parts of several but a lot of what Fred does sorta annoys  me .  Still I always recognize the compaitional skill even if it is not exactly to my taste.

I do love the cello Sonata and trio.  Those are groovy.

I respect your opinion, and I very much agree, the Cello sonata (though I haven't heard the trio) is a lovely piece!

I have very little success with my google searches for
"Hardcore Kumbaya", "Dubstep Kumbaya" or any thing similar.

Second prize is the unusual set of results I got from searching for "Death Metal Accordion"

Note: turn the volume down lol

^ I have seen some debate in here about the decline of classical music and what might be done about it. I sense that the inspirational video you just posted contains the answer.

Had never heard of this guy before this morning when I saw comments on youtube arguing about him. Very impressed.

Found an unexpected comment on this video:

"I've ****ed with him while drunk, later after that we got into a fist fight over some *** knows what kind of ****, basically he said that I'd touched up a toilet seat and he couldn't stand sitting on it then, so he's a great guy but a complete nut-head when it comes to drinking with him...
This video is days after that fight, I've beaten him up so badly that his whole head swell up like a *** balloon, naturally his head doesn't look like this. Great guy."

Holst wrote The Planets in 1914-16. Pluto was discovered in 1930. No mystery in its omission.

I know.  But maybe he was psychic....

Someone's going to have to write a Dwarf Planet Suite.  ...I checked.  I'm not seeing a Dwarf Planet Suite out there.  I think someone did a moons suite alla Holst though.

Reivising for exams so I decided to get lots of listening in.

I explored Heino Eller's piano works as well as Leo Ornstein. Both fantastic composers; Ornstein is a favourite of mine with his unique style. Also listened to lots of Tailleferre, Stanford, Catoire, Vladigerov and Janacek.

Also discovered Rautavaara's symphonies and listened through all of them. Very interesting.

New favourite though has to be Percy Sherwood. Just discovered his second piano concerto and it is fantastic!

I would be interested to see American brass bands play similar pieces to what you find in Europe; Philip Sparke, Peter Graham, George Lloyd, Edward Gregson and Herbert Howells.

It would really help expand the audience for it. I'm not too impressed with the more visual focus, and the fact most of what they play are either run of the mill marches or popular song arrangements.

For example I was just in Freiberg to witness the EYBB play "On the Shoulders of Giants" by Peter Graham. Granted, his compositions focus a bit too much on technical playing, but I find them to be rather enjoyable:

Take a look at the first movement as well, it's really epic!

Listening to the Julliard Quartet's recording of Ravel's String Quartet for probably the 30th time now. Currently deciding whether to follow up with Bartok or ELP.

Wow.  I think this is the most cringe-worthy performance I've ever seen.

Be warned if you watch this.  It's painful to watch.  I was thinking it might end differently.

More reason to practice performing and perform often.
