hi everybody...
i wonder whether i have introduced myself or not....
since i haven't been here for such a long time....probably 2 years...
That's a long time, isn't it?!
I was quite busy during these two years because of my O-Level study...
OK....so let me introduce myself!!
I am Bernard from Hong Kong.
I'm 16 years old and I'm a Form 5 ART student.
I do 8 subjects, namely, Chinese Language, English Language, Maths, Chinese History, World History, Chinese Literature, Economics and Geography
I have been playing piano for around 8 years
I passed DipABRSM 2 years ago and I LOVE playing piano(i think everyone here does!!!)LOL
And i play the flute as well...though i'm not a very good player @@
I play on a twenty-something-year-old yamaha upright...and i hope that i could get a new one really soon!!!! I own a Sankyo flute, which is probably even more expensive than my piano = = though my main instrument is piano!!
I listen to a wide range of music...orchestral, chamber, choral, piano solo music are all my favourite...Other than classical music, i also enjoy listening to some pop, country, though classical music is always my favourite type of music. I HATE ROCK MUSIC
My favourite composers are...bascially...Robert Schumann, Schubert, Bach, Ravel, Mozart and Prokofiev, Mahler. Actually my preference changes from time to time. But Schumann is my all-time favourite. I love the passion, dynamic contrast, unique melodic structure and the unpredictable mood and character of his music.
My best favourite pianist is Martha Argerich. Her technique is not the main reason behind. That is her use of different tone colours, her own special, outstanding ideas on music and her imagination which impresses me a lot. Though people always mention her Chopin when they talk about her, i don't think Chopin is argerich's best. I cannot say that it's not good...but she can do a lot better with other composers' pieces. Her Schumann, Ravel are jewels. Her passion, her imagination suits Schumann and Ravel a lot. Despite that fact that she plays few Bach, her Bach recordings are absolutely fantastic! Listen to her Partita no. 2, Toccata in C minor and you will find out what I'm talking about.
Other than music, i have quite a lot of other interest as well. I love hanging out with friends in shopping centers, shopping, hiking, going to beach. I love travelling as well, though i seldomly go to travel since my parents are quite busy.
I am looking forward to studying music in university...though i am still not quite sure about that...I would defintely go ahead if i am rich enough to study music abroad. But i'm afraid that i am not that wealthy to do it. Besides, music colleges in Hong Kong do not seem to have a high standard...when compared to those in the UK, US and other places in Europe. That's the reason why i'm not quite certain about what i'm going to do in the future. Can somebody give me some opnions??
